Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Your query was what is 'smart tv' not what is advertised/on offer.

You have to phrase your questions clearly. Anyhow, the deal is for a remote control equipped with a qwerty keypad to be used with a smart tv.

Its an android powered media device which connects to a TV to turn it "smart"just like google tv .the device houses the software and the wifi hardware.

Look at LG's Smart TV upgrader ST600, works with ANY tv and reviews are good too.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

40 inch Samsung LED on the way.So after going through this thread in detail plus other sites on the net have come to a conclusion where in (most) cases in the face off between Tata Sky HD & Airtel HD, the Customer care of TS is better whereas the picture quality of SD channels of Airtel are better & guess the HD channels are almost the same for both.

So could I have some suggestions on which one to opt for & I am based out of Mumbai if that makes any difference to the service & picture quality.

Got the VOD Ethernet Cable installed for my TataSky HD+, It was done free of cost, Though modem was on the other side of room they did the cabling neatly. And i was credited Rs 100 for installing Ethernet. Was able to download a 30 mins program in 10 mins.

Have to take a call today, between Tata Sky & Airtel HD.
Any suggestions? It's for a 40 inch LED so HD matters.

Its a small but long term investment, look at their subscription plans & the channels you watch/need, make your decision.

Airtel has more HD channels compared to TATA sky, also makes sense to go for HD recorder(DVR) in todays times.

Rightly put. "small but long term investment"
Went ahead with Airtel DTH even with all the complains of their customer care service but they have the bigger bouquet of HD channels plus i had heard their SD was better than Tata Sky.
Will put up my views whenever the installation happens. Hoping it's at least by tomorrow.

Re: Direct-To-Home television in India. Update DTH HD announced

Got my Airtel DTH installed yesterday. Had made the payment on Sunday online.
Thankfully my flat faces the east so didn't have to get it installed on the terrace. In Mumbai it's a nightmare getting permissions from the society for such silly stuff.
Installation was free but took pretty long as the initially drilled holes was causing the dish "vision" to be blocked so they drilled a few more

Now coming to the clarity, the HD channels look good but it's the SD channels that are amazing. Even on the 40 inch LED there is very little pixellating if any. Was very surprised with their quality cause most of the times when i have gone to a showroom in Mumbai & asked them to play a SD channel on their panels have been dismayed by the performance. Must have been another provider.

First channel i went to after installation was Star Cricket HD which was not displaying as it was not part of the package. There was a number on the screen to send a message to, to get subscription. Send a message to the number, went to the loo & when i got back, lo & behold the channel was activated

Well that's my review. Just hoping i don't face any issues & end up having to face the Airtel customer (don't) care

Its Downloadable through TS using internet. They would have stored Movies and previous weeks soaps which you can download and see directly on TS. But TS needs to be connected to your house internet.
