IMO you should wait for a couple of months. The HD channels have been just started and so has the price war. Wait till Sept when the festival season starts and offers will start rolling with competetive prices, by that time I guess many more HD channels will be offered and then you can make your pick.

actually yes if you can wait, nothing like that. The best part is, no DTH provider is going for mass advertisement for its HD service. I still feel it some kinda marketing strategy! let us wait. when the festival is around all LCD prices and HD DTH prices would fall.

@Newpunter...I guess there's a slight speculation in market that channels like zee cinema and zee movies HD might be the upscaled version of SD rather then being true HD and these upscaled version produce inappropriate resolution which makes pictures look extra stretch. Also Dish TV HD is NOT offering 5.1 output at this point of time.

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe i will wait till things improve rather than jumping in too soon. I have recently recharged my dishtv account for 3 months, so i can wait for some time i guess .

Well, I am surprised by the responses. Isn't it worth spending 2600 bucks for watching a whole season of FIFA world cup on HD? Come on, how much did you spend on that dinner party after you last raise?

Its not the question of spending money, its what value you get for the money put in. We are almost halfway through the FIFA world cup. Also the no of HD channels are few, no plan for disposing the old STB, does not make a good proposition. Thats my way at looking things, maybe coz I am not a huge football fan.
Anytime I would prefer to spend on a good dinner than buy a product which is of little use to me right now.

And I'm not much of a Football fan either and haven't watched any of the matches so far more than a few minutes. If on the other hand they were broadcasting the F1 races in full HD instead of just upscaling it, you can bet that i would be the first in queue to get the STB .

Got the Tata Sky HD box installed yesterday. The football matches look awesome on the LG 50PK550. Will post a review once the Denon 390XP gets installed today evening.

You are right that Airtel has started promoting HD STB just like others and they do offer 7.1 Ch Dolby sound. I could find only ESPN HD as the only channel being offered that too till 12th July. Pls find the link below for details

Digital TV from Airtel

Hi Guys,
I want to buy a DTH, which one should I go for Tata or Airtel? At present I just have a 29" panny CRT, but I might upgrade to a plasma in the future hence planning for the HD STB, which one do you guys suggest? Also should I buy the unit online or from a dealer? Thanks in advance.

I totally agree. Not for just Wimbledon & FIFA WC, fans of Discovery and NGC like me find this to be a great investment.

I think you should opt for Tata Sky since they have a better network due to the first mover advantage. You can go for the latest HD STB's promoted by Tata Sky although the no of HD channels are limited. HD channels will definitely worth viewing on a Plasma/LCD. If you register on Tata Sky website you can buy it online also, you need to check if there are any dicsounts available on the same. I had got my STB online.

Does anyone know what will happen to Airtel IPTV, any chances of they giving HD feeds to their IPTV?
I'm comparing TSky and Airtel HD offers at the moment. Airtel doesnt mention anything about the recording ability - infact no STB details so far. I have been using Tsky for around 3 years and happy with it, but want to see if Airtel has more to offer with Mpeg4 and they are offering HD STB with DVR.
