Thanks dear.
VU, Koryo, ReConnect? Never heard of these brands. Are they reliable?

Buying a Flat Panel Display (LCD/Plasma/LED etc)

Prices on panasonic plasma (some models) that i have gotten on a commitment of group buy are -

65VT30 - 2,35,000/-
50ST50 - 92,300/-
42ST50 - 75,900/-

I have asked them for prices on some more models. The response is that they will only give prices on the models that are available with them. It seems that the whole range is not available at the moment.

Pls check at your end also as i feel that the prices are still on the higher side.
I'm also wondering "Is 50ST30 @ 70K a better bet than 50ST50 @ 92K? Is the new series worth the extra 22K"

22K= a new sound bar= a decent AV receiver = a top end blue ray player = and so on...???

42ST50 is still way too high for me, for something we as a family has limited usage of. I would still look out for 42UT50, which I believe is still not released in India.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

These are Private Label brands which are specific to the retailers named in my post.
They are not superb like perhaps a Sony or Samsung but they are perfectly adequate for a man on a budget.

Sure, MRP is an indicative cost. I was given a quote of 1.17 in Bangalore. Prices will be slightly different based on Local Taxes. Can't be the same all over India.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Went ahead and picked up the Samsung PS51E550D1R. Bought from CoolWell Electrix on MG Road for Rs. 71500. The deal includes a Samsung Bluray player which I should get in about 10 days. I did spend some time with the tv before putting my money down. The pictures are to my liking and so are the color tones. Sharpness is excellent. My source was nothing more than Tata Sky HD which looked really good on this tele. Full Hd sources can only make it look better.

Requirements are quite simple.
1) 24"+ size
2) LCD / LED is ok
3) Should have HDMI (I mainly use it to connect laptop)
4) Audio - a decent output is sufficient
5) Brand - Anything that could be easily serviced in Chennai
6) Budget - 15k max (may stretch another 2k for 32")
Unless you are particula on HD TV, we bought a 32" Philips HD Ready TV for 19900/-. It is available at Reliance and other local dealers. It is from Philips 5000 series LCD TV.
The HD verison is around 2K more.

I got quoted 96K for st50. ST30 can be had for a deal but I didnt check. UT50 was for 65K.

ST50 for 92K sounds like a nice deal. When do we buy it and how?

The difference between st30 and St50 that I know of are increased brightness levels, wi-fi, newer design, detachable power cord, increased black levels due to a darker panel, focused field drive technology to sub field drive (?), ST50 has 8 speakers and a sub. higher shades of gradation,

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Spoke with a big dealer in Delhi and following is the feedback based on his conversation with RM (Panasonic) at Delhi -

1) 65" in VT50, GT50 & ST50 is not available at all. 65" is only available in VT30.
My opinion is that it seems highly unlikely that Panasonic has not brought in the latest series in 65". I think that to prevent cannibalization of 65VT30, they will release it once the existing stocks of VT30 dwindle to an acceptable level.

2) 42ST50 - Rs. 76, 000/-

3) 50ST50 - Rs 92,000/-

I believe that with 50ST30 Panasonic is going to be offering Panasonic's SC XH170 - home theater system - 5.1 channel as a freebie.

I wonder who is guiding their marketing? This freebie system is with a Plain Jane DVD Player. They would have been far better off offering a blue ray player only - cheaper and more in sync with product (HDTV and all that) or a sound bar etc.... aaaggghhh! The freebie sounds more like a handout..

I dont think that with my sources I'll be able to push them any further. Please see if we can beat them appreciably...

Time to plan for the next step now!

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

Ok. First of all Let me thank you.

1. I can get a 50VT20 brandnew. How many here thing a 50VT20 will be better than 50ST50? I like the PQ over 50ST30 but My eyes might be deceived.

2. If the bulk deal is in place, I am ready for a payment right away.

Let me update once tomorrow after I talk to the Panasonic person for Western Region. We can set the ball rolling from there.

re: The TV Thread - LCD, Plasma, LED etc.

I have not been able to get a price better than Yours. I suppose we should finalize the deal.

I am in for the purchase at this price. How do we handle it?

Initially thought 32" may look BIG for my bedroom, then changed mind. Upgraded my order from 24PB21 to 32HV10
