Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

BHPians, I need suggestions.
I am looking for a 55 inch TV. Budget is 65k max.
I use JioFiber 4K Set top box. We mainly watch Prime video, Hotstar, Sonyliv and Discovery plus. I am not sure if the content provided is 4K but it is atleast HD.
In the price range there are lot of options for 4K LED and a few with QLED panels.

Which TV would you suggest based on your experience?

Wait till the Diwali sale.

We bought our LG 55" 4k (LG TV - 55 SM 8100) and got the following benefits

1. Extended warranty for 3 years
2. Discount on EMI sale of around 7K
3. Cashback on Interest after 3 months on ICICI card

On the whole we paid 62K for 72K (MRP = 85K) TV

There are lots of different views and reviews but I find the reviews from this guy Genuine on a variety of consumer goods. But for 55 inch TV, watch this. Audio is in Hindi, turn on subtitles for English.

Looks like Oreo TV servers are down and Thop TV has been brought down. The guy in the video claims that Thop TV owner was arrested.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

I was out looking at TVs got super confused with the terminologies, LED, QLED, Nano cell and OLED, keen on a 55 inch the OLED one seems best but very expensive, the cheapest model of the LG series the A1 is coming close to 2200 SGD, Wondering whether to buy the lowest model of the best technology or the best model of the "lower" technology, The showrooms definitely play around with settings and video to make OLED look very enticing but do we as consumers of netflix youtube etc really can discern?
LG OLED55A1PTA This was the model I saw.

Here are some examples-

https://www.amazon.in/Samsung-inches...1-1&th=1&psc=1

https://www.amazon.in/Samsung-inches...tronics&sr=1-2

https://www.amazon.in/LG-139-7-inche...tronics&sr=1-2

And if you wanna go for the Rolls Royce of TVs , here are some options-

https://www.amazon.in/Sony-Bravia-in...tronics&sr=1-1

https://www.amazon.in/Sony-Bravia-Ce...tronics&sr=1-2

Yes, TVs from Chinese brands are available for 10k less as compared to Samsung and LG but since I myself avoid Chinese brands, I am not gonna leave a link for you to make your job slightly more difficult and to increase the chance of 1 more consumer buying a non Chinese brand . OnePlus TV is available for the same price as the LG and Samsung.

I feel that the Samsung 58 inch is the most VFM offering. Its VA panel also gives it an edge over the IPS panel of the LG(at least for most use cases).

Heard some horror stories about TV purchases through these online portals. Personally I'm still old school when it comes to home appliances and electronics; prefer to still visit a store (Croma, Reliance Digital, etc), get a firsthand feel of the product and crack a deal. Agreed that there are some good offers on the online portals, but I'd rather choose peace-of-mind over saving a few bucks. We keep our electronics for a minimum of 5 years atleast, so anyway it will be "paisa vasool" by then.

You should check out the range from LG and Sony if your budget permits. Samsung is a little underwhelming IMHO. In case you're looking for mid-ranger with decent features, VU has introduced a good range. (Using a VU 55" Android since 2019 and it's quite nice really). Do not opt for the Realme, MI and OnePlus TVs come what may!

I picked up this from the Samsung store app for ~43+k after cashback and discounts last month. For my untrained eye, i am really happy with my purchase.

Agree, had had my eye on this very 58" one since last week (on the Samsung eStore), but was waiting to see if Amazon was offering any miraculous offers. Neither has stock right now so will wait for now.

Any alternatives I should keep an eye on? I like the 58" form factor, as I feel 65" could be a bit overwhelming for our viewing area.

For Major Brands, today, the off-line stores give better discounts. Wait for Diwali Sale and the discount will be even better.

Cannot wait for so long unfortunately. One issue this time is that many offline stores have less stock (of the popular items), as the OEMs were either operating at reduced capacity or closed altogether.

Hey man, it is available on Amazon if you are a prime member-

https://www.amazon.in/dp/B091GYMFFV/?tag=tbhp0e-21

If you aren't, you can still see that it is 'reserved' for prime members. You can just pay 329 and become a prime member.

At this price, the only alternate is the LG but I'd prefer the Samsung for its VA panel and better brand value.

On the topic of the screen size, the old notion of calculating distances is hardly valid now. Now, the Mantra is- 'If it fits, go for it'.

We went for a 50 inch Samsung recently for bedroom but later felt that 55 would have been better. In our case, the 65 won't fit in the designated area but 55 will.

Watch this video for reference-

I would highly recommend getting the 65 if it can fit at your place.

These are the most affordable ones from the respective brands-

https://www.amazon.in/Samsung-inches...tronics&sr=1-4

Hey, I'm a Prime member too and seeing the same page, but the 58" is consistently out of stock
Am I doing something wrong?

65" would be great but the budget is much too much. I was broadly open to a Hisense or VU 65", but a little wary as we have never bought anything expensive outside the Koreans, Japs or EU.

Might be due to your location. It is available at mine. Maybe try tinkering with the Pin code and see if it can be delivered to some nearby area.

And I concur that even I wouldn't buy any other brand other than the big three. Though I can make an exception for Panasonic. It is a Japanese brand afterall.

There is this Sanyo brand which is a sub brand of Panasonic. Not sure about its quality and after sales support though-
