Better get the set replaced with a new one, and keep the new on heat run for sometime. This one looks like a problem of glass panel or panel edge connectors warping due to local heating in the panel, a rare but possible problem.

This is one of the biggest dilemma for all buyers, whether they should stick to the ageing Plasma TVs, go for the currently popular LED and LCD televisions or invest in OLED TVs, the technology of the future.

For starters, Plasma TVs will save you a lot of money but don't think about the initial cost only, since this type of television draws much more power than any of its competitors. Moreover, since it is an outgoing display technology, manufacturers will stop customer support in a few years, leaving you stranded if you need a component replaced. Nevertheless, Plasma TVs offer superior contrast and dark blacks, along with excellent viewing angles.

Since the models are out of stock with Panasonic itself, I doubt whether multi brand outlets would have fresh pieces. I myself checked at Croma and Vijay Sales and was told these models dont even come to them in the inventory. One non-branded multi-brand outlet did have it, but it was a display piece which he intended to palm off at a certain discount.

On the other hand, it does not affect LED TVs since they do not have phosphor at all, making them the best choice when it comes to this parameter.

Though LCD TVs do not use phosphor either, an image can stick to the screen permanently if the liquid crystals render the same image for too long. Nevertheless, for home usage, this problem is hardly an issue and makes LCD televisions almost immune to the issue.

Umm, LED TVs are just LCD TVs with LED backlighting (as is already mentioned in the article), so how is it that you can experience burn-in on an LCD TV but not on an LED TV?

That apart, we currently don't feel the need for Internet on our TV as everyone in our family has their own computer. We also don't feel the need for widescreen TVs since most of the television content is still available in 4:3 format only. We currently own a 29" CRT TV we purchased 5 years ago and don't feel the slightest need to upgrade. CRT TVs are very affordable up-front, deliver great color rendition (the blacks couldn't be any blacker) and can be serviced by most street-side TV technicians. They do consume a lot more power than LED TVs, but the difference in costs upfront more than make up for it.

The TV technology transition is one that I simply don't get. How is the transition improving our life in anyway?

Perfect timing, turbospool. With the festive season on, many people are in process of replacing/upgrading their TV sets.

I had no idea about OLED TVs but given that 3D LED is yet to gain full maturity in the Indian market, I think it's a fair bet my next is going to be one. Saw a nice Samsung 3D LED the other day with internet options as well.

But am in no particular hurry since my 40" LED Bravia with HDMI in plugged into my home theater is doing its job fine for now!

Can you post some stuff on why certain models are more expensive than others within the same brand, e.g. you get a 46" LED 3D from as low as 60k to as high as 1.6K.

Most of the cost difference (IMO ) is due to to the resolutions that these TVs support . TVs prices lower have a max resolution of 1366x768 and the ones which are expensive have 1920 x 1280 .

There might be other factors influencing the cost too like , theres a considerable difference between a 60 inch plasma and a 60 inch LED ... wonder why

HD v/s HD ready

An important fact commonly overlooked. HD ready devices utilize a max resolution of 1366*768 pixels while FULL HD have a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels.A lower resolution results in a lower pixel density & the pixels being noticeable on the screen.

Edge-lit v/s Backlit LED

Edge lit LED TVs use led arrays on the edges of the screen and the light diffuses onto the whole screen while backlit ones have a full array of LEDs behind the screen.

Edge-lit LED TVs are razor thin, while back lit ones are almost equivalent to LCD in panel thickness. Backlit LED TVs offer the best image quality across the board. Back lit cost more than edge-lit LEDs.

Viewing distance

Modern LCD/LED TVs don't require the viewer to be placed significantly away as in CRT. You can view the TV from as close as you do when viewing a PC monitor.

Think twice before blindly going in for a SONY. Don't think that a Sony is an ideal replacement for your old FD-Trinitron you bought in the 90s.

Sony is no longer the best you can get. Their products have continued to be Horribly overpriced and underperforming in the Flat-panel department. Couple this with nonchalant support. They are really what SKO** is to automobiles.

Panasonic & even Toshiba best them at image quality & features (for a lesser price). Only thing these brands don't have is a snob value of a Sony.

I have suffered SONY quality earlier and later moved on to Panasonic.

I have a question for all the tv gurus.

I am gonna be shifting to hyderabad shortly, and gonna revive the gamer in me. I already have a mid-level gaming pc which IMO is future proof for more than enough time. I mostly play racing simulators, (procured the budget to buy a logi g27 too) so dual monitors/tv is the last thing to complete my rig.

Which 32 and 40 inches tv would you recommend? I will buy one 40" and two 32" tvs.

Refresh rate and full HD (1080p) resolution is the top priority. The resolution because I love watching movies too.

Just came across a deal for LG LM6410 Cinema 3D TV at 75k. It inclusive of 3D blueray player,three 3D movie titles with 4 3D glasses. It looks very tempting to me and verified them carefully. But still im under confusion to decide this is the TV for me atleast next 2 years. Very eagerly looking for your suggestions/inputs on this TV as I couldn't get any specific about this model. My preference is Picture Quality (though very interested on Plasma, but not ready to take any debatable risks. Also not satisfied with PQ so far i've seen in the showrooms).

Nice thread turbospool, but a bit late I guess since the purchases are normally made a few days before festive day. Nevertheless very informative thread. I was planning to replace my 32" Panny LCD (100Hz) with a Smart LED TV but have put it on hold. One of my relatives got himself a LG 3D LED TV for 56K something and I was like.

One thing which puzzles me is whether the TV's looking so appealing in the showrooms still retain the appeal when plugged into the current home set up?

I am in for buying 55" LED. I have a choice of going for Indian version Sony HX750 for around 1.52L or go for imported version HX75 for 1.1L. Price difference is in excess of 40k. The person is also giving me 1 yr guarantee. I know the risk is there for garantee but price difference is huge. I had earlier taken Sony CRT & Samsung LED from him and have not seen a issue.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between HX750 and HX75?

If i were a james cameron or special effects specialist all this shebang about 3d cinema, 2d - 3d conversion, Internet on TV, painfull 3d glasses etc etc would definitely appeal to my senses. Which begs the question? How many buyers of all these fancy sets are really helped by this tech in anyway compared to older tech CRT?

Just as any tablet cannot replace a computer when it comes to full use , i feel all these gimmicks is nothing other than variation of technology being forced on hapless consumers, who anyway are forced to replace a new gen flat screen within 4 years as it's lifespan is nomore than 4 years.

I am sure you have done your research and have a reason for going in with Sony.
But did you checkout the Plasma market ?
Yesterday in Croma I saw couple of Plasma's
59 Inch Panasonic - 59k
60 Inch Samsung - 61k
Big price difference between an LED of the same price.

Even if you take the more power consumption , weight, not super bright colors.. I don't see the 1L worth of difference for a smaller screen size in LED.
In fact I found them milder on the eyes when compared to an LED.

Guys any suggestions for showrooms in Bangalore where I can get good deals on Panasonic xt and ut series plasma? I am lookin for a 42 inch plasma. Checked with reliance digital and they are quoting 46k for 42xt50 and no stock of ut. Chroma does not have 42 inch in stock.
