I got Samsung The Frame recently and can vouch for the awesome Picture Quality. I went ahead with this model over Oneplus beacuse of the following reasons:
1. The refresh rate. This has 120 Hz compared to Oneplus , which is 60 Hz.
2. The sound (40 W) which is better than Oneplus ( I am not talking about the Pro).
3. Picture is way better than Oneplus (Compared with a Friend's)
4. The zero gap wall mount and the separate Media box for connections , which you can stow and hide somewhere else.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

Hi guys,

I have a Panasonic Plasma 50inch TV and in the last year or so it has developed vertical lines all over the display. There are many of them from edge to edge.

I am wondering what I do with the TV. It is out of warranty and I see no exchange schemes taking back a Plasma TV.

I guess I have to discard the TV as scrap? Or I am thinking of going to any local store and see if they can take the TV for whatever price.

I would suggest you to get it from a a TCL store. You get 3 years of warranty coverage + good pricing deals. Please do not get carried away by the deep discounts offered by the online sites. Most of it is just window dressing!
Thanks. So a dedicated tcl store, or something like a croma?
Amazon is giving me 18 months, and cost is 48k.
Is that price any good?

I too am a plasma owner with panel developing couple of lines. Some online forums say, you can clean the contacts of panel with motherboard with cleaning alcohol and the lines should go away. Try it once.

Yes, there are no exchange schemes for plasma.

TCL exclusive would be my pick anyday. If you are unable to locate one nearby your try other offline stores too! Please let me know the model number to comment on the price.

This is quite surprising for a Plasma and more so when it is from Panasonic.

We have a 46" one from 2010 (now 9 years) and has been working flawlessly despite of reading that the life of these Plasma Panels based on average watch hours per day is few years (10-12).

The only issue that I had faced was image retention, especially the logos of Airtel and TV Channels but ever since I moved to Amazon Fire TV Stick and started watching content online, most of these that don't come with any static logo, the image retention has drastically reduced and I can hardly notice that on start-up.

I picked up a 43" LED from Samsung recently and each time I walk out after watching this screen and watch the Plasma, I realise that the Plasma is still a Plasma.

You should get this checked with a reputed TV mechanic or may be the quality of Plasma from Panasonic which is a dying technology for TVs has reduced now?

It's 65p8, 2019 model.
Which is yours?

I'll look for a physical store in the meantime

I have two Panasonic 42" plasmas at home. One of them is 10 years old and the other is 8. Both have developed a single vertical line over the last 6 months.

The TV can be pulled out about 15cm on the wall mount and rotated Up/Down Left/Right a bit.
Roy Sir, did you exchange your existing TV for this one.
Can we load Hotstar, SonyLiv, Voot, Zee5 apart from Prime & Netflix on this TV.
Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on buying The Frame LED. The beauty of this TV is to wall mount it rather than keep it on a stand.
Was this via Amazon during the sale or from the store.
The Amazon sale had fantastic pricing for this TV and made even more sweeter if an exchange was involved.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

I'm surprised as well. 'Plasma is plasma' and Panasonic is the best. We have one that is 10 years old (43 inch), and I don't get eye fatigue - compared to the newer LED. I don't think we will get rid of it soon. It's just the bulk and high power bills that're a downer.

No I did not exchange as my previous TV was an LG 23" Monitor cum TV, and is now used as an HD monitor

It is an Android TV. The Remote has dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The Home button has a series of icons at the bottom for
. Netflix
. Hotstar
. Eros Now
. Prime Video
. Google Play & Videos
. Web Browser
. Music and YouTube
. and More

I got my Vu 55 inch Android TV delivered and installed yesterday. First impressions are good. Was able to side-load Prime Video easily.

Re: The TV Thread - LCD, LED etc.

Diwali temptation time and I am thinking of how much damage I can self-inflict.

So, I walked into Reliance Digital and saw the Samsung 55 inch Q70R. Pretty neat TV and has all the bells and whistles. Meanwhile, I read up on the web that LG's SM9000 55 inch series (Nanocell and all that jazz) is also quite good. I found a comparison on Youtube for this but couldn't decipher which one could be better. My current one is a Samsung LCD tv (yes, it's a decade or more old) but heavily damaged by an adventurous kid and maids with spotless intentions.

My question is more related to

1. Operating System - which one would you prefer? I hear great things about WebOS but totally FOMO about not getting Android

2. Parental controls - any experiences in setting these up? Do any TVs come with a screen lock (PIN or other forms) which needs to be entered each time the tv is accessed?

Please help/suggest.
