Thanks buddy! Front cam ain't that much a priority, but definitely internal memory is! So Defy+ is a winner here. I believe CM already has a stable ICS ROM for Defy right? That should work on both Plus and XT wif I'm not mistaken?

The thing about Ebay is that I'm a bit skeptical about purchasing a high value, discontinued phone without service assurance from Samsung. All deals I saw have 'dealer warranty' which is shady I feel.

:-)

But from what I checked, Nexus S on Ebay is for 17.5k. I doubt if I can get it around 15k?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Note is on CM10. A great upgrade considering the preview version must have issues.

- Call works
- SMS works
- GPS wokrs
- Google now looks like working. Atleast gives me my location time and weather so far.
- WIFI works
- 2g/3G works
- MTP works.
- No SOD for 6 hrs so far.
- Camera works and is extremely fast to enable and click a picture. Wait time feels highly reduced.

Mass storage does not work
FM does not work. But there is an alternate i will try later and confirm. The sprint FM which works on CM9
Dice player works - Video taken care of

CM has a Stable ICS Rom CM9 already for a while now and also there is a CM10 JB 4.1.1 near to stable ROM. I have been using CM10 since couple of days. Neat and smooth. Even i had same doubts as yours about running a ICS / JB on a 1GHz processor. But once its on CM9 / 10; all doubts and worries are out of the window. I had a doubt that my battery was draining much quicker. But its all good. 15% drain after almost 6 hours of usage is about 2.5% / hr.

Some screen shots of my Defy + to give you an idea.

Wow that's great buddy! Thanks for the screenshot. Really helps!

Since you're a Moto Defy user, can you guide me which one to go for between Defy+ and XT? Front cam is not of importance to me at all. Also, Plus is cheaper, though thicker and more industrial looking than XT.

Lastly, the debate over MotoBlur vs MotoSwitch! Till I install CM, I will have to bear Blur and I have heard it's quite terrible. Though no one seems to specify why and how it is so bad.

Can it be any more worse than TouchWiz?

Honestly i wont be able to compare the UI between Plus & XT as i have not used or even seen XT. Blur for sure is a littlee laggy and not so great to use. But if front facing camera is not of any importance to you and eventually you plan to root and go ahead with CM, i would say, save all you can at purchase and go ahead with Defy +. The dev support is fantastic. I was a complete newbie to this whole world of rooting and custom roms etc, but the kind of support i got from members here and on xda, it feels i have been doing this forever. In the past couple of days, i have flashed my Defy + about 7-8 times with different builts of CM9 / CM10.

Dont worry about the current layered OS the manufacturer offers. YOu will soon be pleased with CM or other custom roms.

I know the feeling. Last year when I bought Galaxy Ace, I was **** scared of rooting and modding. Bricked my phone twice also, in 9 months. But then XDA and Sammy forums rescued every time.

I had used CM6 on my Galaxy Ace. It was an unstable version but sure kicked some serious a**. One of the MAIN reasons for choosing Defy has been dev support, esp CM!

See the priority is to get ICS at least possible cost, great screen (not large per se but rich density and display) and a mod-friendly phone. All other bells and whistles (41 MP camera, Class 32 connectivity etc) are nice-to-have specs, but not really on my must-have list.

Right now, budget is not my best friend. Else I had a source to get Nexus from US at the new price (USD 349). So till that happens, I will have to satisfy myself with something else.

On a side note - anyone had experience with www.BuyThePrice.com and www.InfiBeam.com for mobile phone purchases?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Have you considered Motorola Atrix 2? It should be a better phone than the Defy Plus. I am also keen on the new Nexus and though I can stretch my budget to accommodate the price on ebay, I am not keen Samsung at all. I was hoping that since Google took over Motorola, that the next Nexus will come from Motorola.
Till then, it has to an Atrix or a Defy.

Ofcourse I *would* have considered the Atrix 2, had my budget been around 20-24k. But then, at that price, I would get the Nexus I9250 anyday.

This time sadly is budget is strictly 12-15k.

+1 to that. at that price point Nexus is the way to go. Brilliant phone and you are never left out for official OS updates. If you are confused between Defy + & Defy XT, i would once again recon Defy +. Cuz once you on CM both are pretty much same.

I just flashed the 26/7 CM10 built with a Minimal gapps package. My phone is crazily smooth now. be it emails / app opening / sms etc. Phone is very much responsive now. Doesnt feel like a 1Ghz "mid" range android any more.

What is it with Xperia Ray being sold for 16k with dealer warranty and for 24k with manufacturer warranty? Can someone please explain? Utterly confused. Even a sensation xl for 22k and 30k with different warranties. Which one can be trusted here? Or is it the same? :

Thanks for helping this newbie.
