3. MapQuest. Not much idea

About GMap, I suppose the locationing will not happen in offline mode.
Haven't tried Waze without net but works fine. Think you need net for navigation. Works well but hope the next version of Android wont cause the phone to heat up.

I think gmaps have an option for offline mode. You can store in cache to work it in offline mode.

Update on keyboard: I ended up buying SwiftKey keyboard. Got used to it so much that when the trial expired, I was like a fish thrown out of water

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I finally have a budget to work with and have shortlisted a few phones. Which one is better as I can't compare anything technical.

1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Latest from Google, only available on eBay)
2. HTC One V
3. Motorola Atrix 2
4. Motorola Defy Plus
5. Sony Xperia U

It should not cost more than 20K and should not be dime a dozen. Hence, all the other Samsungs are a strict No.

HTC One V is single core that too at that price and it is definitely not recommended.

Thanks. Am not sure what that means but I am guessing it is inferior to the others. Will wait for more comments though.

Of all the above, I would personally choose the Galaxy Nexus. Awesome screen, Google phone and Jelly bean apart from other goodies. Downsides being low battery and non expandable memory.

Second would be the Moto Atrix 2. Apart from a not so good cam, Its the best.

Last choice is the Defy. Tried and tested phone.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Thanks a lot. I didn't realize that the Nexus is expensive and costs 30K on ebay.
If I am stretching my budget that much, I am sure there are better options available. Please advise what else can 30K buy in India for pure Android experience?

Another swyper bites the dust. But seriously, you should've waited for jelly bean. I've heard that one of the key things they are now working on is better prediction and suchlike.

But anyways, welcome to the club.

I have checked some reviews on you tube and according to them HTC one V performs quite well almost like other dual core phones.

I have almost made my mind for One V because of it's excellent screen/design/camera. Don't know if I need a dual core processor or not. My requirements are basic phone usage/Internet/Photos/etc.

Xperia U is not worth because of the non-expandable memory and to be launched Xperia Go has poor screen resolution.

Tough choice between Xperia Sola and One V.

At 33/34K you also get unlocked Iphone 4 !
Hope I am not flogged for suggesting Apple in an Android thread!

Jokes apart, I can definitely talk about Atrix 2. (I use it)
Works like a charm, good battery life and all office related functions are very intuitive. Moto support is not that great.
But I am hoping it does not come down to that ! At 23K, it was real value for money.

(Dual Core GHz phone and more importantly 1GB RAM)

Also note that ICS update would happen next month for Atrix 2. ICS should use the two cores much better and hence we
should see a better battery life.

I got it through Flipkart 5 months back.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Thanks. I am not interested in iPhone due to lack of freedom like bluetooth issues etc.
My take so far is that HTC One V stands tall despite being a single core as the screen quality is better than Atrix 2 / Defy / Xperia. Also, I read that HTC Sense UI is the best UI in Android world.
The question is if I need a dual core phone. I think I will go with Atrix 2 if I need a dual core, else HTC One V it should be.
The Nexus is turning out to be too expensive and Defy seems older than Atrix.

Also, does the Atrix 2 really have a TFT screen in this Amoled generation?

If you can get someone to bring you the Nexus from US, it will pretty much fit in your budget. And the other listed phones can't really match up to it. The downside - No official warranty.

If you don't want to take that route, Atrix 2 would be my pick.

Oh yea. Can't type without it now!
Question of Jellybean comes only after me upgrading from my vintage Android HTC Desire, which I am not planning to do very soon! But even if I do, I can still use this keyboard if I find the stock one not up to the mark.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

How is the Defy XT different from defy Plus?
Secondly, are both dual core processors?

If I raise my budget to 30 odd K, what would you pick now:

1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus
2. HTC One X
3. Samsung Galaxy S 3
4. Motorola Razr Maxx
5. Motorola Razr XT
6. iPhone 4S
