| ![]() This looks good for Honda. With petrol prices at 76/L, I highly doubt that they get a visit from customers these days. Moreover, if this engine turns out to be good, which I think it will, then the Honda City D-VTEC (or any other nomenclature that Honda will adapt) will be able to reclaim it's crown of best C-segment car which it lost to the diesel sedans (don't know exactly which one). |

| ![]() If the diesel prices go up, I think small diesel car sales should pickup. It makes sense for a lot of city drives to have such cars. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() I also saw a similar Brio today in Gurgaon NH8, between Haldiram and Hero Honda Chowk. A silver BRIO with UP 16 TC 1170 registration. No monogram/variant badges on the boot, all black naked rims (no wheel caps) and no H logo on the front grill. Bumper corners and other places had scratches so it was looking quite a used (tested) car. I rolled down my window but could not hear anything unusual because it was moving too slow in a straight line maybe at 1500 rpm but saw the exhaust pipe and it was black unlike any other Honda. |

| ![]() It makes sense for Honda to get the diesel mill in the Brio first since the 'real' competition here is minimal compared to the Jazz & City segment. Have only listed the ones that sell in thousands. Brio's competitors - Figo Jazz's competitors - i20, Swift, Polo City's competitors - Sunny, Rapid, Vento, Verna |

| ![]() Met my sales guy at Honda Dealership and he had the following to say about Brio: 1. Sales are picking up for Brio. 2. Brio Automatic coming in September - 2012. 3. Diesel coming in January-2013, bookings to open at Diwali time. |

| ![]() Awesome scoop! The diesel version of the Honda Brio would definitely be a good buy considering the atrocious pricing of petrol in India. It would be great if Honda transplants the petrol mill with the diesel one. It would be awesome! My friend, who owns an old Honda City, was forced to go for the Nissan Sunny diesel as he had no better diesel option in the same price bracket. Honda must launch the City in diesel avatar ASAP! |

| ![]() A well priced diesel Brio would rob Chevy Beat Diesel off it's market big time!! Bring it on Honda, let the war begin! |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() What are the engine specs of the Brio Diesel any clues ? If honda prices the Brio D at 4.5-5L then swift i20 Beat are gonna sweat in there pants for sure!! Good Going Honda!!! |

There will be a greater chance of Honda importing the engine (correct me if I am wrong) just like Hyundai does for its crdi mills. And hence don't expect it to be that cheap. Cars like Swift ddis and i20 crdi are established performers and I don't think Brio can make a big upset. Yes, it will strengthen Honda's stance for sure ![]()

Got a chance to drive a brand new Jazz yesterday. Brilliant, superb packaging and a great engine. I tried to catch it out by trying to pick up in 5th from under 1000rpm. No judder, and a clean albeit sluggish pick up. The Brio has the same drive train!

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spotted the Brio Diesel for the second time today. Spotted a badgeless Brio with test plates from the same series as Honda test cars, tried to click a few pictures that's when the driver got an hint and he floored the accelerator. Obviously he could not run away from a Laura DSG. I drove parallel to this car later when he had to slow down in traffic, i heard distant light clatter typical to newer Diesels, it sounded as if a non MPFI petrol was furiously knocking. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please excuse the poor picture quality. Looks like its time to change my phone. Last edited by .anshuman : 4th June 2012 at 16:33. |

I too dont think so. IIRC, I read that Chevy wnt give that engine to others Maybe Honda chopped off one cylinder of their 1.6l engine which generates 120bhp for Brio? @ anshuman, it still gave you some hard time? Last edited by jkdas : 4th June 2012 at 17:25.

| ![]() Brio diesel? I wonder whether Ford bosses are now worried sick and spending a few sleepless nights, Ford middle management sprucing up their CVs ... Because if Honda does what I think it will, and prices the Brio i-DTEC bang in the middle of Figo territory, Figo TDCi sales will evaporate overnight. |
