| ![]() Though I welcome Brio diesel, the best all around car for me will be Jazz in diesel avatar. Guess we just need to wait and watch if Honda will plonk diesel into its other offerings! |

| ![]() Brio Diesel would be a great sporty lil hatch. The 1.2 Petrol has plenty of grunt, especially when u pump 97 into it. Normally I get tire squeal thru second, but with 97 its thru third as well. Cant imagine the power on a good diesel motor. But I'd be really disappointed if they stuck a 3pot clanker in the Brio. 3 pot clankers are terrible to drive, as I'm sure most would agree (Beat, Polo, Fabia diesels) I hope honda gets smart and puts wider tires in the car, or atleast comes up with a sports model. Any word on what Mugen's been doing with this car? |

| ![]() Honda has been talking about 1.6 diesel for quite a bit of time. What I think is that they are going to chop off a cylinder of that 4 cylinder motor, and then give us a 1.2. The other chance is that Honda will rework the 1.6 to reduce its size to 1.5 for tax benefits also. But in the relatively small engine bay of Brio, a 1.5 diesel is a distant probability. Getting a 1.2 is a fair chance. This is just my view. If Brio diesel is indeed coming, then Swift will finally gets its true competition. More than that, I10 will be the worst hit along with Wagon R. I hope Honda brings in the diesel brio and even the diesel city quickly. Then see where the competition goes. |

| ![]() One point, though I am not a diesel head. Will it be a three potter or a four potter, given the restricted engine bay in a Brio. |

Well logically it might seem a 3 would be the way forward, derived from their 4 cylinder 1.6. But I wonder if Honda will be willing to forego the level of engine refinement that is synonymous with the badge. Honda's are expected to be smooth and silent. |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Offtopic : I sincerely wish Honda brings in the CVT version of the Brio. Currently we have only i10 and the AStar in auto transmission in small hatches. Honda Thailand website shows Brio with an auto transmission and it shouldn't be an issue to bring the same to India. Just read an article on IndianCarBikes about the possible launch of auto variant : http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/r...ed-2012-59656/ Last edited by bnzjon : 5th June 2012 at 13:13. Was not the CVT box withdrawn due to its 'perceived' sluggish performance? And also remember reports like the CVT requires more frequent service intervals and reported clutch assembly failures as well. Given this history, will it be wise for Honda to bring them back on? | ![]() I have a feeling Honda will spend a bomb on building its diesel portfolio and release it around the time when government will implement additional tax suggestions for diesel cars and make them less attractive. I think the subsidy in diesel used for cars has been going on long enough for govt to act on it. |

Modern CVTs are very reliable. Remember many of the 7- and 8-speed ATs (incl Toyota and VW stable amongst others) we see are CVTs under the skin. The main issue left was rubber-banding, which had been fixed by defining shift points (this is what leads to the multi speed box) |

| ![]() ![]() Regarding CVT performance and long term durability , please be informed that Honda City CVT 2006 model has been with me for the past six years and has driven almost 90 K kilometers and till date there has been no issue at all. With more technological evolution, I m pretty sure of no nonsense performance by the modern CVT's. |

| ![]() [quote=D4d-maniac;2788435]This source seems dubious to me. Honda already have a 1.6, 4 cylinder diesel mill in the works. No 1.2 diesel has been unvieled yet. So what seems to be the easiest is chop off a cylinder and you get a 1.2, 3 cylinder diesel. Your are right on the money. A 1.6l 4 pot and a 1.2l 3 pot |
