re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

For me it is a letdown from Maruti in terms of looks - swift losing its character!
  • Rear is a clear cut 'inspiration' from next door neighbor Toyota Etios Liva
  • New steering wheel looks nice. Leather wrap only on top half though
  • Horn pad doesn't look appealing for me - should have been simpler. And there is a clutter of switches on steering
  • ICE looks cool
  • Power window and ORVM switches are retained from old model?
  • No rear air-con vent
  • Side profile with rear door handle beside C pillar doesn't look great - especially looks terrible in white
  • Diamond cut alloy looks ok, but the normal one is plain bad
  • Hybrid's grill is boring, while the other one is Hyundai
  • Rear spoiler looks cool
  • Tall.... headrests, does it have a specific purpose? Rear passengers wont like it, unless this is a cab

Those are not head-rests but head-restraints that help prevent whiplash. I'm sure they're removable altogether.

I do agree with you on the Etios Liva inspiration though. Can't pin-point the exact design element, but at first glance (especially for someone who requires spectacles, like moi ) it does look like the Liva.

They've clearly gone neutral here. To me, this doesn't excite nor does it look bad.

But, the rear camera (or keyhole?) stands out like an eyesore

I guess that is as much as you can do to a classic design. The car is still has the unmistakable Swift look which I guess was the design target given and it now looks all grown up without losing any of the classic Swift design cues. Every Tom Dick and Harry wants a hexagonal front grill which I guess is the design flavor of current times and frankly I don't find it too bad.

No way, the Swift will weigh a 100 kgs less than the Baleno. 30-40 kgs is more likely to be. Also Swift will initially not come in SHVS avatar. They might do that with a facelift if at all. If the Baleno, Brezza, S-cross and others didnt get SHVS till now; Swift wont get either at least in India for now.

On paper, the Swift might cheaper than Baleno in the range of 50k ex-showroom for the same feature set.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I like the looks. It'll probably age well.
Somehow, I feel that the rear door handle placement is a very nice touch.
(Love it on the Chevy Beat and love it on the Swift 2017)
The inside is especially driver friendly (Flat bottom steering wheel, all black theme, big analogue tacho and speedo, colour MID, bolstering on the sides of the seat etc).
The boot space seems to have improved along with the legroom inside.
Hopefully Suzuki/ Maruti improve on the already good driving dynamics of the Swift and make it more fun.

The fog lamp area and the Hexgon Grill look very similar!

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

The rear looks ditto like that of the Etios liva..

Even if suzuki renames the celerio as swift it will sell in bucket loads, that's the brand pull it has.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I have a swift diesel and driven it for 35,500kms. I chuck the car in and out of traffic, be it in city or highway, it brings a smile to my face. I had taken the test drive of Baleno and its handling felt nervous and flying compared to swift. (No offense to anyone but my driving experience)

I am disappointed with the news of Baleno chassis being used for New Swift. I thought of replacing my swift with another new swift once I complete the 1lakh kms mark but now, I would have to find another vehicle with similar chassis capability.
The Facelift could have brought just refreshed interiors, some exterior styling and boot space.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

One word I would like to say after seeing the All New Swift 2017.
Mother Suzuki should leave the designing completely to its Indian Child M.Suzuki.
Brezza is miles ahead in design than this one, and Ignis.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I am not a big fan of C-pillar mounted rear door handles. I think the front and rear looks fine. Nowadays most of the car designs are love it or hate it types.

There are a few like Kite 5 which stands out in terms of originality and beautiful design.

All said and done, new Swift will sell in India like hot cakes.

Let me against popular opinion and say, I absolutely love what they have done to the Swift, launch this in 90 bhp DDIS version with a 6 speed gearbox and man this will eat the Hyundai's and whatever nearby the Swift for lunch and dinner.

re: The 2018 next-gen Maruti Swift - Now Launched!

I think the front of the Swift looks great while the rear looks muted in comparison. I really like the new overall design with the changes to the interiors. They might change it to black + beige in India as that is associated with premiumness here (although I prefer the all black avatar). What I don't like is the placement of the rear door handles - somehow the traditional layout seems more elegant and mature.
The front has mostly taken an inspiration from the Jaguar F - type (one of the best looking cars on sale IMO). While it may be a bit of a replica, it doesn't hurt its looks.
