Same in Pune. Called up the dealer and no pricing, no demo cars, no test drives, no timelines. Only information worth having was that bookings have started with an amount of 20k. I doubt things will improve much.

While I am sold on JTP, I am not keen on this take it or leave it attitude of dealers. Will probably wait out this initial hype and venture out when there are ready stocks. I really want to see how JTP compares with likes of polo and aspire/freestyle for which I'll have to wait for proper test drives.

Torques are limited to 115 Nm in City mode.
Don't remember if the power difference was mentioned though.

I don't think it would translate that well into real life , given the turbo engine. Small turbo engines usually stay on boost and do consume a lot of fuel. Eg my ecosport ecoboost also has an ARAI rating of 18.9 But city driving yields about 12.
Anyways as long as I get a mileage of 10-12, won't be an issue for me.

Regular Tiago petrol is rated for 23.8 kpl and it is actually quite efficient on highways when driven sedately.

While there are many comparisons on how the JTP versions priced, the most important is the Swift ZXI vs JTP Tiago.

The JTP Tiago is 10K lesser than the Swift ZXI not even the top spec spec ZXI+.

If I had the option to spend ~7.5L on a car, I would eyes closed go and buy the JTP Tiago.

Heck even if my budget was 10L, I would get the JTP Tiago.

While you guys will have to wait for our official review to know how it really drives in details, all I can tell you is that I have never had so much fun driving a hatchback since the Figo S last year and this was even more enjoyable being a petrol.

Moderator Samurai was with me and he is a sedate driver in the ghats but behind the wheel of the JTP cars climbing up to Ooty and back from Coimbatore he had a huge grin plastered across his face and was going all out through the curves.

Sums up my thoughts entirely. Especially considering the fact that the Zxi swift has identical equipment levels more or less (abs,airbags, non touch screen audio , no led lights or drl , rear wash wipe etc. ) and marginally more space inside the car.
The difference finally comes down to the drivetrain and the handling characteristics which as per the first drive reviews seem miles ahead of the Swift.

Decision is easy

This is very encouraging and might I say, a potential spoiler for the official review!!

By the way, reviews mention that torque in city mode is limited to 115 Nm which is identical to 114 Nm made by Tiago. Is it possible that the Turbo does not spool up in city mode and as such the performance is similar to regular Tiago? If so, this would help immensely in achieving better fuel economy in city mode. That would help JTP to have the piece of cake and eat it too!!

So exciting to see TATA giving us serious contender in the hot hatch category. While the volume may not be as high as regular versions, this will still give their brand a nice and positive boost. Shows the confidence that they have in their engineering.

I wish other manufacturers take cue and follow suit. Hot hatches are always fun to drive and we have very limited options at the moment.
