Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

Yep, last time I filled @ Shell at 81.xx /l, yesterday got a pleasant shock to find Shell regular @ 75.xx /l.
Good step by the govt to reduce the excessive excise on petrol vs diesel :-) Will reduce distortions in petrol price between Shell/Pvt vs PSU oil pumps, and also diesel vs petrol.

Filled up Shell Unleaded @ Rs. 72.25 per litre at their Ekkaduthangal pump yesterday. It is only a few paise (~ 3p to 5p) more expensive than the grubby oil PSU pumps. Hooray!

Even if Shell fuel (petrol) costs a few rupees extra, the sheer peace of mind one gets is definitely worth the extra bucks one shells out (pun very much intended)!

And the courtesy and customer friendly attitude shown by the pump attendants is a very welcome feature in a country where customers are generally treated with indifference at best and with rudeness at worst.

Three cheers for Shell!

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

Hurray! The price for unleaded today - 75.90/liter. I was shocked for a bit to see that Shell is retailing at 2p below the PSUs for a liter.

That's a 7re dip from my last tankfull almost 15 days ago.

+1.

I did tank full yesterday at Shell, Pallikkaranai (behind CTS) for the same Rs.72.25 per ltr (unleaded petrol).

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

I am worried about filling Super unleaded at Shell now, which is dearer by Rs 7.00 per litre (Rs 79.25) instead of the Rs 2.50 per litre earlier, after the price adjustment. Not that I mind the price; but am worried that very few people will fill SULP now, so I may get aged stock whenever I go to fill.

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

I filled unleaded at 77/- over the weekend outside Pune octroi limits (near Khed Shivapur). Premium was 82.50/- so I assume this was some promo on the price (you'd expect it to be around 80/- for unleaded based on pricing history).

Since PSU fuel is 75/- in Pune (73/- outside octroi limits), I thought it was worth it and tanked up. Appears the prices have come down even more since then. Good!

PETROL PRICE COMPARISON BETWEEN SHELL AND PSU

Here are the latest Shell fuel prices and approx. PSU prices (varies slightly across PSUs for petrol) across the country from the Shell India site, the HPCL & BPCL sites:

Price of Fuel (in Rs.)

City Diesel SHELL Unleaded HPCL Petrol SHELL Super Unleaded BPCL Speed

Hyderabad 70.00 78.15 75.43 85.15 85.11

Ahmedabad 68.00 72.50 72.62 79.50 81.92

Rajkot 68.00 71.85 71.88 77.85

Surat 69.00 72.50 72.46 79.50

Vadodara 68.25 71.65 71.71 78.65

Bangalore - BS IV 68.00 75.90 75.92 81.90 85.65

Bangalore - BS III 68.00 75.15 81.15

Mysore 67.00 75.10 75.12 81.10

Pune - PMC 70.10 77.00 75.50 84.00

Pune - PCMC 69.90 76.65 83.65

Pune - Outside Octroi 68.40 73.70 80.70

Chennai 68.80 72.25 72.20 79.25 81.66

As you can see, it's mostly even Stevens with Shell (both ordinary and super unleaded) petrol actually being cheaper in some places!

Edit: Sorry for the messed up spaces, the app seems to have certain formatting limitations.

I don't think you have to worry too much about this Shell is a professionally managed company staffed by good managers using the best management tools. Once they realise that Shell Super is not selling well due to the price difference, they are bound to reduce supply and inventory accordingly, to prevent stock build-up and selling of old stock. I already believe they do something similar for diesel due to the lack of "subsidy" . On the other hand, with the poorly managed PSUs, there is always the risk of one getting old stock if they buy the "branded" fuels.

Next time, just take a look at the fuel stock board displayed at any Shell pump and decide for yourself.

Re: Shell fuel price discussion thread !!

Filled up at Shell today. 75.90 at Old Madras Road (Bangalore) bunk. I saved Rs. 0.02 per liter of fuel in comparison to normal PSU's. How cool is that? It should make a significant contribution to "Azeem's Ferrari Fund"

Now, that is what called level-playing grounds

Govt should deregulate not just the pricing of petrol, but also the OMCs let them "really" decide the price everyday (or week etc) as shell is able to do.

Expecting fall in prices inline with the TOI article.
