Sky rocketting petrol prices. Contemplating to pick a diesel ride from Hyundai's / Ford's possible launches.

Try to get hold of a low mileage done skoda (40-60K) or else just stay away from them as Octavia is a phased out version and there is already a bad hit on the demand for used ones. It would be a nightmare to get rid of her few years down the line.
Remember Used Ford Escorts?
What's the deal with the 1lakh kilometer service and how is that supposed to leave a BIG hole that you are talking about? Do you happen to have the Skoda TDI's service schedule? What all parts need to be replaced at 1 lakh kms?

It would help if the statements made are followed up with facts.

its sort of generic, ain't it?
50k and 100 k marks usually entail a big bill.
eg, when i took my current car in, i only told the adviser, before checkups, that its a 50k service.
the first cost header without any inspection was 4500 bucks, for a fiesta...
this is without all the labor/ parts involved in case of faults.
same story for my santro, zen AND the bike!!

Experts... pls advise what is the best price for the car in above condition..
1st off, I think the car's odo is tampered with. There is no way, 15k kms can wear out a tyre so fast. If yes, then the car will come with serious suspension problems.

2nd, the car is seriously overpriced. At this rate you can easily get a '07 Ford IKON, which is much in better in may aspects.

My Advise: Stay away.

I don't think it is generic at all. Each car has its own list of things to replace at certain intervals. I drove a City till 125,xxx kms and didn't shell out anything extra at 1 lakh km service over and above what I spent at the 60k or 80k service. Drive a high milegae Octy and again same story - one goes by the service shcedule and the condition of parts. Otherwise mileage figures are just a number.

It's not as if everything is going to fall apart at 1 lakh kms and one will end up spending a fortune at the 1l km service. At most the list of checking points will be larger and hence a marginally high inspection charge. There will be very few parts which will need replacement at 1 lakh kms. The usual Octy service will cost you in the region of 8-9k (if opting for Synthetic oil - which alone costs 4k). Does spending 12-13k on the 1lakh kms translate into BIG hole in the pocket?

My point is - back any advise you are giving with facts. If you know that the Octy needs a lot of part changes (and the service schedule says that) at 1L kms then only it will be fair to say something like '1L km servicing will leave a BIG hole in the pocket' - otherwise let's not misguide people on the forum who are looking for genuine advise.

Guys,

A friend of mine wants to sell a 2009 September model Ikon Tdci with 8800 Kms on the Odo.

The Car is well maintained with 1.5 yrs of Warranty still left. It has a entry level music system with a Kenwood HU and 4 speakers and Art leather seat covers.

What would be a fair price to expect for the same?

Cheers
Lloyd

Hi Guys

My colleague wants to buy a 2009 FIAT Punto Petrol Emotion Pack in Chennai.

The seller is quoting 4.6 for the same.

The car has run around 23k kms.

What would be a price he can quote for the same?

Thanks!

Don't think you read through the posts and what they were all about . I am not looking to buy an Octy (or advice on buying one). I already have an Octy from the last 6 years - and it has lots of miles on it. I was just reacting to a post saying the 1L km service for Octy is very expensive.

With my kind of running (1500 kms per month) I only need to get it serviced every 8 months or so. I get it serviced outside for 5.5k with Shell Helix Ultra Diesel as the engine oil (costs 4k). So at least for me the car has been easy on the pocket (touchwood ).

Touchwood! I sincerely wish you to have a trouble free journey with your Octy too.

Cesc seems to have taken my comment too personally

I was mentioning about the BIG HOLE in the pocket from my experience with 3 Octavias owned by my friends and one family member.

None of them had a pleasant experience with the service guys and one friend was asked to even replace the flywheel at 90K which actually put a HUGE HOLE in his pocket. IIRC the service bill came to 80K approx. He paid the bill and asked the used car section of the same service centre to sell the car off. He did not even drive out the car from there.

Here Mr.SMK was asking a suggestion on a pre-owned 90K ran Octavia. If SMK has no clue about the driving style of the previous owner, Service intervals he/she maintained. It would be a better idea to go for a much low mileage done Octavia to be on the safer side.

The above statement could be taken very generic to any used car buy, but the below posts by different gentlemen could show how valid my point was regarding a used Octavia buy.

Octavia is purely a driver's car! I love that brand for the superb handling, dynamics, fit & finish and classy design. Story changes the moment some part fails and you start dealing with the service guys.

Good luck once again.

Hello,

As I am going out of country, I need to sell my i20 Asta 1.2 Sep'2009 model.
- 11000 kms done
- 3rd year extended warranty
- 10000 worth 3M sun films

How much can I expect? I saw some exorbitant pricing when I searched on net. Can some one who bought or sold i20 recently give me realistic pricing.

Thanks.

I have seen 2009 Asta's in Chennai with similar specs being quoted for 5.1-5.3 lakhs.

Bangalore the prices may be higher as every pre-owned car price seems to be quite steep there.

donarun, well well well!!! will this push your ICE install plans. How much was your OTR? Apply 10% discount to the OTR and quote the prices. Please never venture to a dealer. Try to post your add in Sulekha, tbhp, gearhead and carwale online classified. I am sure you would get a good price.

GTO, as much I learned from the reviews & ownership experiences of several bhpians of Merc & BMW, I am inclined to buy a pre-owned (prefer this combination of words than to held it holy) Merc or a BMW. My driving background is experience of owning & driving a:
  1. Japanese: Honda City 1.5 Exi for more than 70k kms
  2. Korean: Santro for several thousand kms & many more kms been driven
  3. German: BMW 540i (E39) for 6k Miles in US until backache forced me to return to India
Would you please elaborate your personal gripes & euphoria of Merc (know you owned one) & BMW from ownership, service & driving perspectives in India. In fact, it will be great if we consolidate relevant materials all in one thread (not the Germans feeding the flat beds though!). Will you?

Thanks!
