Re: Royal Enfield Bullet 500 : "Amun-Ra"

loosely translated it means that "Sir, the sound maybe awesome and turn heads, but in case you get stopped for being loud, Royal Enfield aint gonna be responsible as the silencer has nothing to do with us"

All the more reason for the fine print. You wouldn't find it on a local make silencer from a non RE shop.

Re: Royal Enfield Bullet 500 : "Amun-Ra"

But then why are they selling it in the first place. Moreover I was told that it's the same one as comes with the Electra's. Makes no sense if seller cannot justify selling his own products.

Dada, i dont know how Brahma managed to sell you the short bottle.AFAIK the only "aftermarket" silencer that RE is authorised to sell is the upswept silencer. RE had long before discontinued the short bottle when the bazooka was introduced. Does the Bill have any part number or did it come with an RE packing?

Dada they discontinued the short bottle quite some time back..i do not know how Brahma is claiming its original accessory when Royal Enfield doesn't. Maybe its old stock that he is trying to push off. But in that case, it should not have a disclaimer, did it come with the Royal Enfield packaging ? but even with the packaging and disclaimer wouldnt it be illegal for an authorised showroom to sell something that is not legal, Or are we losing something here

Re: Royal Enfield Bullet 500 : "Amun-Ra"

Related to the topic of silencers, had read somewhere in last year, that in the North East, RE showrooms even sell the Short Bottles which makes typical loud noise. Not that it makes any sense now, but I am pretty much sure that RE show rooms does sell these different type of silencers.
Coming back to the topic, yes it was produced in front of me by tearing some RE branded plastic covering and yes, the bill indeed had some part number. Probably that part number will include every silencer types.

Moreover as certain new buyers will most probably go for silencer changes, would request them to get it from the trusted local stores. Showrooms just charge more without the expected assurance.

Also Amun-Ra seems to be having more torque at its disposal at the twist of the cable. Not too sure how is it possible, experts can advise more.

Re: Royal Enfield Bullet 500 : "Amun-Ra"

Yesterday, at around 9:30 PM, the clutch cable went kapoot. Odometer reading was 27528. As I was not carrying a spare clutch cable, so was left stranded for nearly an hour to have it replaced. Lessons learnt is always to carry a spare Clutch and Accelerator cable, for just in case scenarios like these.

You can attach the spare clutch and accelerator cables next to the connected ones as well. In this way was when it cuts, all you have to do is connect both the ends and you can remove the failed cable later.

In other words, it will look like double cables for both clutch and accelerator as in the picture below.

Observation : All this could have been avoided if Ramesh would not have inserted the metal part instead of the plastic part. But why did he do this? I was a regular customer at his service centre and have suggested him to my friends too. If the part was not available with him, then probably he could have told me and we could have chalked out a suitable date and time. But he chose to replace the part with some thing not acceptable, resulting in huge loss of both money and time.
I used to get my servicing and repairs for my old AVL Thunderbird done by Ramesh because he was a Bullet specialist. But after seeing his slipshod work and shortcuts I soon stopped going there. I would frequently have to visit him for corrections and fixes for work he himself had done. He wouldn't charge for these fixes but that is beside the point, it should be done right the first time without the customer having to make repeated visits.

Since then I've tried Pandit Automobiles (near Khadki station) who are OK for minor work but I've been really impresses with Bullet Guru in Pimple Saudagar who take the time to do a good job. They are somewhat new (only about a year or so old) but are owned by RE fanatics (both partners are members of the Roadshakers). The charges are slightly higher than guys like Ramesh or Pandit but the infrastructure and quality of work is worth it.

I learned my lesson about carrying a clutch cable a long time ago. Nowadays I replace my clutch cable every 5000 km. The old cable is then run alongside the primary one and tied down with plastic ties. If the cable snaps, replacing it is a matter of minutes only. Note that the spare is just that - a spare. Since it is out in the open exposed to the dust and other pollutants, I trust it only as far as getting to the the nearest FNG to replace it with a new one.

Bullet Guru was infact very close to my earlier place of residence but there is one issue which kept me away, other than their high prices. There is one helping boy working there who earlier used to work at Brahma. During his tenure at Brahma I had a few observations with him like very careless in handling the bikes or placing them, not at all professional with steady hands, talks more works less and the most important reason why I remember his face, he completely overlooked my initial days of starting problem and was hell bent on convincing me along with the floor in charge that its no problem at all.

Its now nearing three years that I have my Amun-Ra and I am sure that his ways of working has improved. But the way he avoided me when I had went to Bullet Guru, just cautions me to stay away from them.

If one rides a bullet then one should be ready to pay a bit extra for servicing, spare parts etc and that has become an acceptable norm. But its the workmanship which matters the most to me. At this moment I am doing the servicing at Platinum Auto Fatimanagar; though the distance is much but till date I have not find any major issues of concern over there.

Regards,

Re: Royal Enfield Bullet 500 : "Amun-Ra"

Amun-Ra's elder brother, my dearest Pulsar, just completed 12 years of loyal service yesterday and that calls for a celebration.

Though some major work is lined for him, but in the interest of both my motorcycles, please can someone advise "good quality" polishing stuff which can be applied with hand. Though I do not mind rubbing to get that pristine shine, but still wondering if there is any portable handheld device available, which I can make use of while polishing my motorcycles at the parking.
