Ins - 52,707/-
After a shocked inquiry they gave me a discount :-O as follows:
Ex showroom - 13,34691/-
Reg - 210204/-
Ins - 51723/-

Now, I have to start pressurising to get insurance from outside, since they want me to take it there only. I think the Tax is 10 % of ex showroom, Iam not sure how they arrived at their figure. Temp.Reg is 2% of the tax amount if Iam right. All this Iam not sure whether its a 2012 model.

P.S - This is for W8 AWD
13.62 is new ex-show room price in Chennai after recent price hike. As a token of appreciation, Mahindra has offered 50% discount on this price hike for the customers who have booked XUV in the first lot. Your dealer probably forgot(??? ) to apply this discount but eventually offered it after some probing from your side..

Registration Road Tax is 10% of ex-showroom but only if your vehicle's price is below 1 million. Otherwise it is FLAT 15% - Source

You can determine the Mfg Month and Year once you get the VIN from dealer/mahindra. If it is C6AXXXXX then it is Jan 2012, B6MXXXXX then Dec 2011 and B6LXXXXX then Nov 2011 an so on..

Please note that the new prices are be applicable only to model year 2012 vehicles. The model year 2011 vehicles even if delivered after Jan 1st will get price protection.

Temp regn fees is generally fixed amount rather than % of ex showroom and should be very minimal but I don't know for sure.

And this is in their FB page
It is an augmented reality clip. Mahindra if offering a free clip of them interacting with the cheetah to whoever visits the stall.

The yellow XUV looks stunning and different in the clip. Need to look closely for myself tomorrow.

It's a fresh concept. I am seeing it for the first time. Though it could be meaningless, I am sure it will be a crowd puller. Just like the "Flying Beat". I like it.

Spotted testing: Mahindra XUV 500 LEFT HAND DRIVE.

Saw this XUV 500 in Velachery, Chennai. I was crossing a signal and hence got less than 3 seconds to capture this pic (And the result is pathetic. Camera didnt focus! ).

The first LHD version of an Indian car?

From what i can recollect -
  • Left Hand Drive.
  • W8
  • Interiors looked same, but like a mirror image. Mosquito coil ac vents unchanged.
  • Interior build quality looked like the testing model we had in the spy thread earlier, and not that of production version.

Sorry for the pathetic pic. I was crossing a signal (with our autowallah trying to jump singal), and couldnt stop to focus the mobile cam. However, you can see the impression of steering wheel on the left hand side, and the empty RHS seat.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Test drove a W8 today. Took to it instantly - clutch feel is good, adequate feedback from the road and very nice ride. Took it through some very uneven surface (unpaved roads, continuous undulations upto a foot deep) and there as no severe pitching at any point - nobody in the car felt sick or even too perturbed. Did not get to stretch its legs too much in traffic, but even upto 120, power delivery felt smooth across gears, and handling was not scary at any point of time.

Loved the drive. Interiors are decent - don't exude a plush feel but feel/look good. At 16 on road for the W8, and 14 for the W6, not particularly VFM but then its pretty loaded. The idea of that many sensors in there does scare me a little bit but only time will tell how those hold up.

Last seat space seems tight. Better thought of as a spacious 5 seater with options open.

That's a great catch Crazy Driver!

Looks like A. Mahindra was very serious when he said that this car will be Mahindra's International vehicle.

Not really. I've seen several Tata Safaris, Tata Indicas and one Mahindra Scorpio with LHD config, when I'd been to Europe some years ago.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

Hi Guys,

I took my XUV to the workshop over the weekend. I'd been hearing this 'khat khat' sound from the rear and infact, on way to workshop also discovered some 'squishing' sound from the front LHS suspension too.

Here's a quick summary of the experience at the workshop:

1. I'm quite literally floored by the RM concept. The two RM's (Santosh Nayak and Anil Varghese)handling all Koncept Mahindra (Lajpat Nagar) vehicles are both brilliant fellows. The eagerness to make the customer experience delightful just blew me away. More than made up for the average sale/delivery experience I had at the showroom. Btw - the RM ratio is infact 1 RM to 500 vehicles . So these two guys will eventually need to handle 1000 XUVs before more RMs are appointed. Thats too much IMHO !!

2. Walked in to the workshop. They have made a new workshop at Okhla only for the premium vehicles, i.e. XUV and Scorpios. Its a little small right now (can handle about 15 vehicles), but works quite well for now. Later, they plan to move the Scorps too out to the older workshop and make this exclusively for XUVs

3. I immediately got the attention I was hoping for. The RM together with the XUV Technical Specialist (Sudhir Singh - very knowledgable and patient guy) did a test drive with me. The TS infact kept changing seating positions to press/hold various plastic parts etc in the vehicle to isolate the noise.

4. Came back and the team got into action. Isolated the rear noise to a 'catch' in the rear boot door which was set right. The front noise was some loose bolts that were tightened. They also discovered and volunteered to change my rear RHS speaker since it was buzzing a bit. I took the time meanwhile to chat with the RMs on various issues and learnt a lot (I strongly suggest this to all - these guys know a lot and have experience from various cars coming in for servicing - so have answers for almost every doubt you may have and some advise too)

6. After the work was done, the RM and Technical Specialist again took a test drive with me and we agreed that both noises were gone. I hope they dont reappear now, though I have a nagging feeling that they will. Lets see !

5. I also met the workshop manager (Mr. Arun Mishra) and its clear how customer centricity is driven right from the top. Good guy who supports his team well.

Some interesting things I learnt:

1. We must expect some sounds from the front LHS suspension since the engine in the XUV is transverseley mounted and hence there is much more weight on the right side than left (Left only has the power steering module I think). Strangely, the tuning of the suspension (by Lotus, no less) hasnt factored this weight imbalance and suspension of both sides has been tuned identically.

2. Small sounds/noises are the most common issue customers are reporting back in these first few months. The second most common is cruise control

3. The security system in the XUV also has pressure sensors inbuilt (incase you didnt know). Their sensitivity cannot be changed, but from my experience so far, the sensitivity is quite allright

4. There are pressure sensors even on the undercarriage - around the fuel line in particular. So incase someone tries to tamper with the fuel line - that too will trigger the alarm. The bit of a downside is - and this is an actual case as narrated by the RMs - that if a fat cat hits the underside of the vehicle at night while passing through - it might trigger the alarm !!

5. The RMs have instructions to never (ever) hang-up a call from a customer or ignore a call, no matter how many times or for how silly a reason they call. And they have received some very strange ones apparently.

6. The workshop offers a full treatment package for the XUV that includes paint protection, underbody coating (this is a Wurth coating that I saw. Its quite thick and rubbery and will also isolate noise a bit. I'll get this done next time), plastic parts treatment for the interiors and some other things too. I think the cost for the full package was around 13k.

7. The creaking sound you hear when you open the rear hatch is normal. Its some magnetic system that retracts when you open the hatch door. Nothing to worry about.

8. The AWD comes into play (if needed) only at speeds below 30kmph. After that its FWD automatically.

Overall, my experience at the workshop, with the RMs and the technical team (lead by Sudhir Singh at this workshop) was quite good. I even got the extended warranty certificate that is usually given when the vehicle comes for the first scheduled service. I realised that its important to have a good friendly relationship with these guys - since you also learn a lot simply by chatting with them.

Im hoping it stays this way, since these are early days with not so much pressure of hundereds of XUVs coming in for scheduled and unscheduled servicing. But so far so good.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 : Test Drive & Review

For those who have tried using the ICE remote from the middle rows, how has been the experience, does it work well? I have found it erratic. The ICE doesn't respond to the remote when used from the middle or third row seats. The Nippon guy came to have a look and used his own remote and the best that could be managed is the ICE responding when the remote is placed on the arm rest. Even if held at a certain angle, it wouldn't work. It has to practically rest on the central console for it to latch onto the remote sensor. If one tries to point from anywhere else, except the front row seats, the system doesn't respond to the remote commands or is inconsistent in its response. The batteries where changed to new and tested but same result from both the remotes. It would appear the Nippon guy has not seen it work any farther than the arm rest in any of the XUVs he has used the remote in.Sounds crap. Please share if anyone has seen the remote more effective. Can be of little use to seats middle and rear if it behaves this way -and there is where one needs a remote!

Hi Nitin,
This really is a surprise for all of us! We would appreciate if you shared your experience and the reason why you are taking this decision, so that other members can also give due consideration to those aspects of the XUV. One of the disappointing areas in our XUV, which I find is low end torque, especially on gradients. It has some difficulty in Climbing. Hopefully Mahindra can fix this with an engine firmware remap in future.

Regards,
Behemoth
