Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

Posting this query for a non-bhpian friend. He has a Dec 2015 make Skoda Rapid Ambition with 2+2 years warranty. Now he wants to install aftermarket parking sensors and reverse camera.

How are Skoda towards aftermarket installs and would it effect warranty. Any specific connectors available for Skoda that will help avoid wire cutting?

Sam

Re: Skoda Rapid : Test Drive & Review

I got my rear suspension studds replaced outside. Got Gabriel studds from Shetty motors in Navi Mumbai and got it replaced at a local garage. Was pretty straightforward. exactly 3 bolts to be removed and fixed again.

Question i have is that the studds came with Vento Marking. does this mean that the settings on these will be of softer suspensions vs the hard one that Rapid had ?

Car had done 93K and was hitting speed breakers from rear if there are passengers in rear seat. The car feels much much better now with the replaced ones but want to understand if the settings will be different ?

Although I don't see much of an issue with fixijg reverse parking sensors, you could ask the dealer to help in fitting these. I got all of the electronics fixed at the dealer's end( I bought them separately) before I even took delivery of the car.

1 year. But the warranty is from the battery manufacturer and the dealer facilitates in claiming it if needed. I got this information from the dealer just yesterday as mine died at 1 year 11 months.

Oh. Mine is also 1 Yr 9 months old. I can sense some weakness in the battery. Which battery did you replace yours with and what is the price ?

I am noticing a weird behaviour in my 2012 TDI. The car requires an unusually long cranking to get fired up if parked for few hours also.
I had got the battery replaced recently to Amaron and have undertaken a 2500 km trip as well and everything was perfect.
This issue has suddenly cropped up. VCDS didn't throw any error either. What could be the issue here?

Do you let the heater light on the dashboard to go off before cranking ?

Even wait for a few seconds after all the lights go off for the fuel to get filled up in the pipeline.

Could be a dying fuel pump, a known problem with early vento/rapids.

How to pin point to it? If it is the cause, I would like to have it replaced before it gets me stranded someday.

Wouldn't know how to pin point it. Could be a throttle position sensor error too. My service centre guys once mentioned usual problems and its signs. According to them Injectors, fuel pump and wheel speed sensors were the commonest faults on these models. A reasonable service advisor and mechanic would be needed i guess. Get the complaint (long crank time and black smoke on starting) entered on a job card asap, it is the least one could do.

There are absolutely no signs of clutch going bad.
A casual Google search points towards the issue with throw out bearing. However, I am absolutely clueless and at the same time don't want the ASS to mess unnecessarily with my car.
Hi torque18,

Can you please update on this issue so that I can find out if my clutch, release bearing and flywheel replacement were really required as carried out.

Thanks

Apparently, it's an issue with the clutch only and is not going to deteriorate over time. Plus, the issue can crop up any time and is not linked to the mileage. Even if the the clutch is changed, it may reappear.
So yes, the sound is very much from the clutch.
I didn't get it changed even though I bought the clutch and pressure plate along with the bearing. I will be observing this phenomenon over few thousand kilometres and then decide.
