The local Hyundai dealership at my place confirms the launch of Grand i10 Petrol and available in Asta ans Sportz version. Delivery time stated to be 1 to 1.5 months.

Hi Bhpians!

I have post this in Swift & Brio threads. Posting it here too for maximum responses.

My friend need a petrol hatch as his 2nd family car & is confused between Swift, Brio & Grand-i10. Thanks to the competition. I had a short TD of both petrol & diesel variants of Swift. Also had a TD of Brio on a smooth tarmac. I have not Tdied the Grand yet. Need your advice before finalizing. He will go for the top end only & he is not bothered about the initial cost & features. He is also not worried about interior quality & luggage space.

He will use the car mostly in city & once in a moth for long drives. His requirements in order preferences are:

1) Good ride quality (he means comfort oriented suspension set up so that ride will be least bone jarring)
2) City driveability
3) Engine power & strong pick up
4) Refinement & least cabin noise.
5) easy ingress & egress
6) ease of maintenance ( not cost of maintenance )
7) FE
8) High speed control & manners

Though I have no experience of grand i-10, from official review reports & my driving experience of i-10 kappa, my ratings are as below. Please correct me if I am wrong which will make my & my friend's job easier.

1. Grand > Brio > Swift ( I test drove the petrol swift on undulated roads & felt the bumpiness )
2. Brio > Swift = Grand
3. Brio > Grand > Swift ( power of petrol Swift died down after 100 kmph, not so in Brio)
4. Swift > Grand > Brio ( Swift felt really refined to me during my TD )
5. Brio > Grand = Swift
6. Swift > Grand > Brio ( no brainer )
7. Brio > Swift > Grand ( since petrol Hyundai are not famous for FE )
8. Brio > Swift > Grand

If the above analysis is correct, then he may go for Brio. Urgent inputs needed please. Any other car should should we look for ? He is not in favour of Tata, Volkswagon and Skoda.

You have done the study well. Its hard to pick one among these as its a very close finish. All 3 engines are very competent, and the variants are well spread out too offering all the bits and pieces.

Swift is always going to be a strong contender as it ticks most areas except the rear seat space, and the dark cabin. One too many on the road too.

I would think Brio, if you dont mind its rear glass finish. Its quite roomy as well and fit/finish is decent. Honda's are inherently reliable and offer the most hasslefree ownership experience.

Where the Grand wins hands-down (it also has rear AC vents too) is interior space. If this is priority, then look no further - go for Grand. Also, its new and fresh too. I would mention that Hyundai cars do cost a decent chunk to maintain, unlike the Brio/Swift. But Hyundai cars can go on and on, if well maintained.

Got it in 10 days....very similar to i10 auto to drive, however it has a tiptronic :-D

It is an old school torque converter with a manual override (like tip tronic)

Guys! Need an immediate help!

My new "Hyundai Grand i10 Diesel sportz" front windshield has started to show some cracks. I don't know how this happened. On sunday morning I saw this crack. I am presuming it may be due to temperature difference. I would like to know experts view here as I am new to car ownership.

I also read few threads in team bhp about changing windshield from "Windshield experts" or from dealers. But this is secondary. Before I go to them, I would like to know whether it's because of low quality glass or temperature difference.

I also touched the glass surface from both outside and inside, but I can't feel the crack. I really don't have an idea, what caused to crack? As far as I believe there were no such situations, where it caused to crack the car's front windshield.

Please help!

I don't think the temperatures would have changed overnight so much to cause a crack. And I believe these glasses would be designed to handle some extreme temperatures as well (summer in Rajasthan or Winter in the coldest regions).

If you can't make out any impact / can't feel the cracks outside, you might be lucky to have it replaced FOC from the dealer. I am NOT too sure of it though.

Well well well, I'd be interested to know why this happened. As far as I know, Hyundai never had quality problems with glass- a pebble hit mine and not even a scratch. You can never tell though when a company begins to take shortcuts on which model. Check the frontscreen for AIS logo (Asahi India Glass) and note down its specs. Question of their glass cracking due to temperature is next to nil as they are leaders of tempered glasses. My guess is someone messed with it when it was parked. Temperature changes of 60-70 deg (when heated in sun) to 20 deg doesnt exactly qualify for a front window to crack.

OT (but could not resist since I always wanted to ask) : why do many volvo buses have 'cracked' glasses (even the crawling KaSRTC volvos) ?

How come the shift from a diesel Figo to a petrol automatic ?
