Re: Ford Endeavour : Official Review

Thank you so much for the wishes guys. Appreciate it.

I collected the car from 3M on Friday evening but the "Park Pilot" was malfunctioning. Took the car next day for the GPS Tracker installation and the Accessories Guy inspected the wiring next to the Nudge Bar.

Water had seeped into the connectors so he taped it. I had mentioned the same to him while taking delivery too that the connectors would be exposed to water. He has assured me of a more permanent fix later.

GPS Tracker installation was pretty straightforward. Download the Autocop Trackpro app and login to see the car location / Ignition Status / Speed etc.
A sim card of Airtel is inserted and requires an yearly renewal of Rs. 1700/-

Did not take the car out over the weekend but whatever driving we have done, it has majorly been in dense traffic and bumper to bumper too. So FE is pretty poor at 6 kmpl. Have topped up the fuel and will investigate in detail how the FE is now. Don't want to jump the gun too early.

Had a couple of questions though.

1) What Tyre Pressures are existing owners using? I have got various answers from the Dealer. Have 32 all around for now.

2) I am eager to switch to Nitrogen. Has anyone else done that so far? If yes what pressures have you opted for?

3) Early days but sometimes I have heard a "Grrr" noise on the rear left while turning to the right. Maybe its the tarmac or new tyres, I don't know. Shall monitor the situation over the next couple of days.

Attaching the Photo of the Ford Accessories List for your reference again. FYI the Bars are made of Metal ( housing the Nudge bar sensors, they look like plastic but very very robust ).

Coming to 3M, The following treatments were done on the car :

1) Paint Protection Film - barring the Roof and the Lights. Side Mirrors too since they are chrome. 262 sqft @ Rs. 532/- per sqft - Rs. 139384/-

2) 5 Years Anti-Rust Treatment - Rs. 5055/-

3) Total Car Care Package - Rs. 22839/-

4) Silencer Coating ( Complimentary )

5) 3M Nomad Mats. 32.7 sqft @ Rs. 230/- per sqft - Rs. 7528/-

6) Front Windshield Sunfilm. - Rs. 7990/-

A figure or Rs. 160000/- was agreed upon ( Inclusive of Taxes ).

Also purchased Micro Fiber Cloth for inside and outside, Car Cleaner for Outside and Leather Cleaner for inside, Waterproof Car Cover - Rs. 9200/-

Had taken Car Delivery from Dealer on 3rd August and left it at 3M in the Evening. Took Delivery on the 5th ( Late Evening ). This is 3M Santacruz in Mumbai

PPF is a good thing to have although they have Stretch Marks on the Bonnet and couple other places. Bubbles also have come up in 2 - 3 places. Have notified the Rep and I am taking it there today to sort it out.

Extremely professional and very helpful store. Regular Updates were sent across to me and in every conversation you are re-assured of the service quality and care for customer. Doing it or no is purely a personal decision but I don't want any risks with such a big SUV in a city like Mumbai.

Pics of the Procedure and Final Photos attached.

Considering the fact that the OEM HighBeam have a low throw, anything with a short throw would only illuminate the illuminated area better.Range would not improve.
Auto adjustment is a totally different issue and fixing or not fixing the mentioned lights would have no impact on that.

Regarding Warranty,Given the fact that dealers discourage even swapping same spec high beams, my take is that one would potentially become a sitting duck if accessories are fixed.

Nitrogen works well if it's 99%+ pure. The issue is that the filling stations don't have the best maintenance practices and the money to maintain it either. Nitrogen is used in F1 cars but you know their rigors.
There is a bbc test that showed nitrogen filling from a local shop actually reduced the mileage! You tube has the video.

The new Fortuner is expected to launch at a very steep price point. If true, the sales of Endeavour will increase as it will be more VFM at the current price point.

Take the car to FASS and get the headlights realigned. They are totally off.

Right side beam is too low which needs to be raised as per standards. FASS should go it, not an issue.

First they checked the system for any faults, when none were found they reset the PCM and then asked me take it with a senior tech for a milage check drive. This involves filling up fuel, resetting the trip and setting of on a 100km drive between 8-100kmph. The car immediately seemed to drive better, and when the test was completed we refilled fuel to manually check the mileage and it had given me 13/litre. The trip calculated at 12/litre. Totally great surprise for me. Having got 6/7 earlier. Perhaps I made a mistake. But resetting the PCM may have done the trick. Make sure they do it every service.
So how do you reset the PCM? I checked on the Internet and apparently just disconnecting your battery for 30 minutes should reset your PCM and allow the car to learn your driving style.
The initial vital few kms, say about 50 kms are driven by the dealer drivers who really don't care much and always drive like maniacs. So it is possible that it is the driving style or parameters that the PCM uses to adjust the settings.
Anyway, I am going to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and then check if there is some difference. I am just hoping that it doesn't have any negative effects.
Watch this space for observations post this procedure. Keeping fingers crossed.

The service center reset the PCM for me and it's to be done every service. You could try disconnecting the battery. At the same time, I would suggest using the trip meter to look at your Fuel Economy and not the tab that shows the fuel economy itself because I think that doesn't accurately show your economy other than over that moment itself.

On my Fiesta I did mileage calculation using both methods- trip meter and fill to fill. Both turned out to be the same. I would think this piece of s/w is the same across all Fords.
