One part of me says, may as well pay a couple of lacs extra and can probably push the car a bit more on the off-road, the other half loves the looks of Model S and says u were driving a Hyundai Verna automatic, the Model S is anyways going to take you beyond that. (I am an amateur bird photographer and tend to just go off exploring small trails whenever opportunity presents itself)

But in between all of this, I get to know of all the rattles and niggles of the Jeep compass and that splits me into a third part which says, almost 40lacs and do u want all the rattles?
I have 2 questions:
1. Does the trailhawk also have the same rattling issue as Model S?
2. How bad is the rattling noise? Owners, how are you all coping up with the noise?

Any help that makes my decision making easier will be appreciated.
I own a trailhawk, got in March 2022, and my close friend bought a Model S, I originally booked Model S, but when I came to know about the launch of trailhawk, I waited, might as well spend the extra bucks on a true 4*4.

And on noise - honestly - both of us did not face any rattling issue as mentioned here. I guess the newer versions are better anyways.

I am very happy with the trailhawk so far. Hope that helps.

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Yeah it is. The on road cost in 2019 was around 26 L. Negotiations opened at 18.5 L. Played around for a week. In the meantime got the vehicle details. A very dear friend and college mate of mine from Xavier's days is in a senior management position at Jeep India. Had the entire vehicle history right from manufacture to ownership including the comments of the service centre tech manager within 24 hrs and even before I had seen the vehicle. NE India has a very price sensitive and cost conscious market and depreciation of premium segment vehicles are much higher than elsewhere and lower or budget segment vehicles have a lower rate of depreciation. Since I'm currently based in Meghalaya this was too good an opportunity to let go to buy a good vehicle at a comparatively lower price. This vehicle is Assam registered and IMO the best used car market for premium vehicles is in Kolkata in terms of numbers and price.

I took vehicle from Aaron Jeep, Kolhapur. Their service center looks like an old setup of Marunti from early 90s, which didn’t inspire confidence. I anyways don’t plan to get it serviced from there as the car will be used in Bangalore mostly. PPS Jeep Electronic City has a huge service setup. SAs & mechanics seemed very well trained.

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

This is a long one folks. Thank you for your patience.

My compass was one of the first ones in Noida, bought within a week of its launch. Before the pandemic hit I had clocked a good 58k on the odo. The experience had been blissful and I never regretted the purchase.

The horror story started February of this year. The family was out shopping in Lajpat. When I tried to start the car for the journey back it did not start. I called the RSA. The RSA responded pretty fast and the guy seemed knowledgeable and courteous. External battery was not able to get the car started and towing was the only solution left. The RSA person assured me that he can take care of the towing part and I could leave. True to his word he send me videos of the car getting towed an hr later.

Visited the Okhla service center the next day and the car still would not start. The SA guessed this will likely be a fuel pump issue and assured that once that is changed all would be good.

I thanked my stars that I had been paying attention to the advice here and had spend 25k to purchase the extended warranty. The towing and fuel pump would all of course be free.

Went back home happy that the problem had been identified and would get resolved soon. And here comes the twist in the tale. Got a call from the SA a few hours later that all seems to be fine now and the car is now starting. Asked them to check everything and they confirmed they would be doing that. They hooked it to their machines and tested everything and surprise, surprise no problems were found. Got the car a couple of days later after they had tested everything and found nothing wrong.

In the next couple of weeks noticed that the car did not start at the first crank one in ten times. Send the car back to the service station for another checkup but nothing wrong was found.

Few months passed and we now enter June. One fine day when I had driven around 100+ kms that day and was about to park the car at home the problem struck again. It was late at night so the RSA requested if they can come next day and I agreed as I was at home. The next day the RSA person came and tried to jump start the car and it worked. The RSA person clerarly mentioned that the car might have started but it was not a battery issue. So back to the service center for the car.

No surprises when nothing wrong was found with the car again after a couple of days of thorough checks. So back to driving. The only difference is that while previsouly each drive used to be a joy now I dread the first few seconds as I am not sure whether the car will start or not. Let me tell you it is not a fun feeling and surely not one I ever though I would have with my compass.

A few days later one evening the car refused to start again. I had to leave town for a few days that night so when I came back I tried again and it started without any problems. So back the center center and then back in my hands a few days later without any resolution.

Last Tuesday it stopped at a traffic light and refused to start. Jump start did not work this time. The car was towed. And guess what happens when it reached the service center. Yes I am sure you can all guess it. Works absolutely perfectly. I would like to point out here that Okhla service center people have been very co-operative and helpful. They seem to have tried everything but the problem could not be diagnosed.

So got the car back this afternoon after three days of checks. Got it delivered at the office. Drove it back to home and parked it. Tried to start after 30 mins and the car did not start. Called the SA and he said he will send the people to diagnose the problem at my home. They came and finally it seems that problem is in the fuel pump. They left with the assurance that they will change it now and they have all the evidence they need.

Fingers crossed that finally this issue is resolved.

Lesson : Please do buy extended warranty.

That was a wonderful decision.
How long do you plan to keep this vehicle?
Any thoughts on how you plan to handle such situations after the extended warranty is over ?

I had originally planned to keep it for at least 100,000 kms. Now I am not so sure. If the problem persists even after the fuel pump replacement I will probably sell it.

The extended warranty is getting over next month and I really have no clue what I will do if something like this comes up post that.

What happened to this issue? Did you get to the root cause or still chasing the issue with the dealership?

How much does it cost? Why can't they recommend that the fuel pump be changed at xxx kms? Is the issue with petrol or diesel or both? I would hate to be stranded on a highway with this issue. Does this typically occur after about 50K?

The extended warranty costs 25k. The fuel pump I am not sure but I will get the final bill sometime later today so should be mentioned there.

My is the Diesel sport model. I am not sure whether this is one off case or a recurring issue with Diesel and/or petrol models.

The major problem here is the lack of ability to diagnose the issue. I have had to send the car to the workshop 4-5 times and that is most frustrating. Even after the replacement how I can be sure that was the problem and it has been fixed. For the next month or two I would probably just stay within city limits and pray to god that the issue is finally resolved.

Still ongoing, seems they sent it once again for review to the insurance people on basis of 'good faith'. In the meanwhile my key fob failed (Rs.25,000) which has been agreed to get it replaced under warranty.
In between all this my dad had an accident and got a bill of Rs.1 lakh (steering box issue, link rod bent, bumper and cladding damaged, tyre damaged..need to check suspension after replacing the above). Got B2B insurance and hence going through that. So the stereo is slightly de-prioritized.

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Hello,

As a last ditch attempt to deal with rattling issues, I’ve bought the Second Skin Sound Dampener sheets (Damplifier Pro) (https://www.amazon.com/Second-Skin-D.../dp/B00V7CGHGG)

Any suggestions on where I should get it installed from - the service centre or a specialist store?
If a specialist store, does anyone have any recommendations for a store in Bangalore?

Thanks!

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Zanskar conquered.

Just reached Kargil. Completed the Shinkula-Kurgiak-Purne-Padum-Rangdum-Kargil route.

Honestly, no car deserves to be on this route. There are no roads at all. It’s all rocks and boulders, sharp stones, slush, sand, loose gravel, water and river crossings, steep climbs. We drove on everything but snow. I had to be extra careful about the 18 incher tires and the ground clearance but both did not disappoint. What I learnt was that both are pretty good if you are careful about how you approach the obstacles. Twice I had to reverse my way up a climb which was nothing but loose sand. Struggled a bit but it managed well.

I will come up with a detailed report later but the Compass completing this epic trip proves that this is no softie. It’s a great off-road vehicle after all and will not be a garage queen at least for me.

P.S: In one of the stretches (Purne to Padum), the roads were so bad, I got a mileage of 2.8kmpl.

Congratulations on completing a very challenging drive. From the pictures, feels like Compass is in its natural surroundings. Look forward to more updates from your travel.

On the milage, now it seems fair to say that sometimes even diesel owners need to have deep pockets.

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Dear friends,

Happy to announce the Jeep Compass 4 X 4 Diesel AT 'S' has come home.

Delivery was taken last week.

Initial impressions of XUV vs JC

The raw power on XUV is phenomenal
However, the ride and handling on the Jeep is phenomenal
Of course with MT box even Jeep will sprint

My daughter was quoted 45K for 2 years. Why the difference? Is yours for a year?
