It's been raining in Chennai for past two weeks. Both the rear light enclosures are fogged up. Will try to post some pics.

A 20 Lakh vehicle having oil leaks and Dashboard rattles is unimaginable and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Does the Uconnect media player support Flac format?
Has anyone tried it?

Basically, Jeep is like the Harleys and Enfields of Cars. Lovely machines with constant niggles. But the loyalty is unmatched. However, considering Compass is not really a Jeep platform (it is Fiat 500X platform), i was expecting it to be less of a Jeep and more of a Fiat. One does not get to hear of such leaks on the Puntos and Lineas of the world.

It is plastic, as far as i remember from the short test drive i took. The lower control arm area for the front suspension has a metal protection but the area below the engine has a plastic cover with few holes here and there

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Here is the first drive review of Petrol AT from Autocar India

Conclusion: If one wants a Compass in Petrol + AT combo, then go for it, else diesel is better.

The "O" ring rubber seal was replaced at transmission / driveshaft junction. The made-in-Italy rubber seal is probably not suitable for Indian conditions!

Not sure how you can compare the two. The on road cost difference is in the region of 8-10lacs (Probably more).
  • If we must compare, the Honda is bigger and has more room for passengers.
  • Reliability is almost a given.
  • The Honda does fare better when it comes to safety equipment.
  • Toys such as a larger infotainment system, electric drivers seat, Cruise, Paddle shift, tilt and telescopic steering, etc
  • Both are better to be categorized as soft road or intermediate vehicles and are not really built for hard core mud plugging.
  • You will be much better off when it comes to support no matter how hold your CRV is.
  • The CRV is best bought in 2.4l guise but do note that 5-7kmpl is normal for this class of car.
  • Neither will have great resale.

Off road is restricted to Bangalore main roads and occasional bylanes

All of my cars have been Asian - Toyota / Honda / Hyundai / Maruti

I guess crv is better to drive? And faster in 0 to 80 kmph?

Unless there is an urgent need for a car, I would recommend waiting for the next gen Cr-v. It's a more mature and premium package. Drives better, quieter, better interiors. Possibly with 7 seats and will most likely be launched within a year. Better future resale value as well. What Could be a negative in congested traffic is that its grown in width.

The Compass seems be a better car compared to the current Crv. But Jeep reliability and ASS scarcity would always nag me.

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

The newer CR-V might also come with a diesel mill.

Having been a past CRV owner and also having test driven the Compass, here is my take:
  • CRV has a much bigger cabin and this will grow further when the next Gen CRV is introduced next year. The Compass' cabin is very small and not much bigger than that of the Ecosport. CRV may even get three rows of seats in the next generation.
  • Honda's petrol engines are among the best in the world when it comes to NA engines. They rev high and deliver a smooth and linear power build up. Huge pleasure to drive. Honda is slowly getting into Turbocharged engines and this may be available with the new CRV. Should be even more fun!
  • Quality of interior materials is way superior in the CRV.
  • The Compass has a butch front presence, and is probably more fuel efficient but other than this, the CRV is superior in most other ways.
  • CRV is slated to come with a 1.6 Diesel Mill next year. Autocar has tested this in the far east and found it very punchy and frugal. The engine puts out 160 HP and 350NM although it 20% smaller than Fiat/Jeep's 2.0 Multijet II. Again, Honda's superior engineering prowess at work.
  • Unlike the City/Amaze/Brio/BRV etc which are emerging market cars built for cost, CRV is a world car built to much higher standards. So one will need to forget any comaprisons to this family of Honda's cars to truly assess Honda as a brand and CRV as a car.
  • In terms of cost, the CRV is going to be closer to 30 lacs on-road so not strictly comparable on price basis. However, if you can stretch for it, it will be a much better package, trouble-free and long lasting and with good re-sale values.

With all the good points about CR-V, I am just wondering why it is not ticking the sales register.
