I'll be driving the EcoSport with the new engine & AT soon. Will update thereafter.

Hyundai has made great improvements to its petrol engine & AT gearboxes. Yes, as an urban SUV, the Creta AT would be my pick. Or even the Tucson Petrol which isn't too far away. If size isn't a concern, the Hexa AT & XUV500 AT are also in the same $$$ whereabouts and have a superior 'slushbox' experience.

The Compass Diesel MT left a lasting impression on me. Not the case with the Petrol AT.

I won't use the term "milk" for this particular 1.4l engine. Apart from the fact that the block maybe shared with the old Fire T Jet motor, there is little else in common.

Smaller engines are turning out to be the norm these days and there are some very good examples such as the T Jet, Multi Air and VW's superb little Tsi motors, etc.

My only grouse is when manufacturers go far too low on downsizing and expect turbo charging to do all the magic. Does not work always.

Asking for feedback from Compass owners :

What is the maximum battery voltage that you all have observed ? I ask this because I have observed 13.9 V which is the maximum even after a few hundred kilometers of running in a day.

Mine is also 13.9 max and this is normal. It is a 12V battery which should not be charged over 14V so it is normal. The alternator charges the battery at 14.5V and there would be a cutoff which cuts of the charging at around 13.9 so that the battery does not overcharge.

With great pain, I would like to inform you that oil is leaking from the right-hand-side driveshaft. So many niggles in two months of ownership!

Is it only Prakash who is facing such problems or is there any one else out there with any issues ?

So far no issues to report with my Surfer, apart from the Dashboard rattle and the doorpad vibrations. I am still not to happy with the headlights still even after the LED upgrade as the focus is not great. Has anyone else upgraded the Ltd version lights to HID yet? The dust covers will need to be cut for that and direct tapping from the battery is required, which is why I am bit apprehensive.

Looks like it's the transmission fluid that is leaking. Driveshaft usually has thermal grease and doesn't leak any fluid. Should be a faulty seal, unless there was some kind of under-chassis hit.

Exactly my thoughts. Is the vehicle being abused , unintentionally maybe ?

I can understand an issue cropping up . After all a car is a mechanical entity with innumerable parts, static and moving. But multiple issues with one car ?

P. S. I am not berating anyone here. Just my thoughts.

Can't really think of any way to even intentionally abuse a car to have its seals leaking in <4,000 km. This sort of leak is common to Jeeps (search international forums).

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

If these leaks are common to Jeep, it is high time that Jeep looks into the matter and takes the necessary remedial action. Otherwise, a good car will have it's reputation tarnished. And if these types of problems are really common, more people should be reporting the same.

What are the remedial measures taken by Jeep internationally to deal with the same ?

Re: Jeep Compass : Official Review

Drove my friend's new Compass in Shimla "Himachal Pradesh" and it did scrape on roads adjoining the main road but somehow the Maruti Alto in-front managed not to scrape maybe its lower wheelbase helped. Just to put into perspective the Octavia has a approach angle of around 13-14 degrees and this has an angle of 17 degrees.

Anyhow the only part that scrapes it seems it the plastic/rubber bits attached to the bumper because I did not hear any metallic screeches. In which case these should be detached and a proper approach angle be reinstated.

Is the engine guard made of metal or plastic?
