Re: The Running / Marathon Thread

Friends, can you suggest me how to choose a good running shoe as per my weight and physic. I am using a beaten out Nike for long time and started developing knee pain now.

Also,Please recommend if you have any brand and model based on your experience.

If you want to go the scientific way, get your gait analysis done - I have heard of a sports store at Indiranagar which have a gait analysis machine and I think even the Ascis\Skechers showroom may have the machine.

I am thoroughly impressed with my pair of Asics Gel Pheonix 9 and Asics have a good range of gel shoes in all budgets.
I have a pair of Skechers also, but for long distance running, I will prefer Asics gel shoes any day.

Have run around 670-700 km in total in the shoes in the last 4 months and the shoes are holding beautifully.

Re: The Running / Marathon Thread

Need some help from Bengaluru folks.

I'll be running the Bengaluru Marathon in October. The race starts from Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Can someone recommend any hotels/airbnbs nearby? I would prefer walking to the venue rather than taking a cab.

And, if anyone here will be running, let's catch up there.

Thanks!

Well, there are a few 5-star hotels nearby. The closest would be the ITC Gardenia and the Marriott, both pretty steep. There's Airlines Hotel, very old Bangalore landmark, they have rooms, should be very reasonable, check them out. Woodlands, another old Bangalore hotel is also very close to the venue- this is probably the best bet. There also seem to be some service apartments around that area according to Google Maps - Casa service apts, Sundance suites, Melange, etc., perhaps you can call them up and check. I guess the full marathon starts at some ungodly hour so the Metro will probably not be running (it starts at 5:30 on weekdays and 7 on Sundays).

I would suggest staying at a 5KM radius and take an uber. Like am1m said there are not many options at walking distance.

You could also try Ibis City Centre, very close to the stadium and it's a business hotel so should be reasonably priced.

That's what I was looking at, and it's a 1.2 km walk to the venue.

Woodlands is also approximately the same distance from the venue as Airlines Hotels. These options look promising. Thanks for the help mate.

Thanks! I think Airlines Hotel or Woodlands seem like a good option.

Thanks! So all 3 options--Ibis, Woodlands, Airlines--look good to me. Time to make a booking!

You can also look at
  1. Chancery
  2. Chancery Pavillion
  3. Many smaller hotels in Lavelle Road.

Thank you! I've added that to my list as well. IIRC, you are also a runner, right?

All the best!

Did you get lucky through the lucky draw or did you get the bid thru Active Holidays? I have been getting the regret letter for the last 5 years

Thanks milecruncher. I am going to do all my majors through active. This is active too. I just lucked out on lottery at Berlin last year which was my first major.

London and Chicago booked this year through active. Next year hopefully NY.

Is any Indian television channel showing the London Marathon live today? Would anyone know?

Re: The Running / Marathon Thread

Had a fabulous experience at London marathon this Sunday - my second world major marathon. Weather was perfect and the crowd support just fantastic.

I had a really strong and steady race finishing in 3:54, a jump of more than 20 mins from my Berlin 2018 time of 4:16.

Look forward to Chicago as my next world major now - on 13 Oct 2019.
