The Midnight Express: (1978, Netflix)

imdb link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077928/

imdb summary: "Billy Hayes, an American college student, is caught smuggling drugs out of Turkey and thrown into prison."

Always liked watching prison movies and prison escape movies. So i thought i'd give this a try. Movie is loud and has not aged well i guess but still a watch. Stupid netflix does not have subtitles for the turkish spoken parts, just says "speaking in turkish"!

It's based on a true story.

3/5

The Green Mile: (Netflix)

No summary needed and yes i am late to the party having kept it aside for many years. Finally got around to watching it, and what a movie it was! Just gets you in the feels!

Glass Onion - A Knives Out Mystery

Streaming: Netflix

I simply adore the Whodunit movies. The first installment of the Knives out series was fantastic mystery thriller movie. Expected something similar in the second installment Glass Onion, turned to be nowhere near the first one. Daniel Craig in a funny English accent & ridiculous dressing was unimpressive. The rest of cast (Ed Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista) was weak and didn't sound funny or dark in any believable way. The plot was revealed quite early in the movie. I would suggest not to waste time for this movie, instead see the first installment again if needed.

Watched Avatar: The Way of Water

Only words I can think of to describe the experience is visual-delight . Just like the 1st part, this takes the beautiful make-believe world experience to next level. This has to be experienced only in a theatre

However that’s where it ends. Storyline becomes predictable after first 20-30 minutes & After first couple of hours started feeling bored. Never the less every screen is a wallpaper material which somewhat makes it bearable for 3+ hours.

Rustic Creek: (Netflix)

It was well acted but story was run of the mill predictable and just was not "dangerous" enough.

Watched it (again) on the day you posted. Many thanks. The second time I found Jennifer Connolly even more attractive.

This time Tom Cruise's wrinkles looked even more prominent. I think I will stop seeing the movie till the MI7 is released.

Talking about Tom Cruise, his running methods are analysed by Olympic runners. Even they are impressed.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Highly recommend these Danish gems, starring Mads Mikkelsen:

Another round (I think an English remake with DiCaprio is in the works)

Riders of justice

Try and watch these in sub rather than dub. The impact is simply not there in the latter

I watched TopGun yesterday on Prime and thought there is not much scope for the Tom Cruise run in this movie. But there it was.
Even if his next movie is in space, I am sure there will be a scene where he is running. I guess it's like the Rajni walk...every movie has to have one.

Avatar way of water.

The frames are stunning and special effects are top notch. But it does not really mask what is essentially a non existent plot.

After a while I was wanting the movie to end. They could have easily told this story in half the time.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery: 2 / 5

What a waste of good brand recall and an excellent star cast. Waste of great actors like Edward Norton. The movie tries too many things over the whodunit movie mystery
- putting many stars in cameo roles (Ethan Hawke, Hugh Grant, Serena Williams, etc.)
- a satirical take at the life of billionaires (focusing on Miles Bron)
- a back & forth editing of the movie that completely spills out the murder mystery by halftime

+1 on Riders of Justice. Loved that movie especially the supporting actor cast. Just for Mikkelsen, I would also recommend Polar; he's absolutely in his element in that movie.

For some weird reason, Mikkelsen always reminds me of Danny Denzongpa - an absolutely gem of an actor who excelled in negative roles in Bollywood.

Oh dear god NO!! Polar is downright atrocious. It’s not even on the same planet as the 2 I mentioned. I mean Mikkelsen is as always giving it his all… but the cast, writing, the (trying hard not to vomit) VILLAIN… just cringe all around. There has to be a rule here at Tbhp to never recommend this “movie” to anyone… and MUST be enforced stricter than even the 2 smiley rule

And I love Danny. Very versatile and charismatic… and I would draw parallels to Mads there. But that’s about it. You should see him in “Another round” to gauge his acting range

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Just finished watching the "The Haunting of Hill House" Netflix series (7.5/10) - Year end holiday special watch.

Another well delivered screenplay and story (Good Thriller, Horror)

Excellent acting by Victoria Pedretti

Another series that i watched (few months back) of this actor is "You" also available in Netflix (7/10) - good thriller.
