We seem to lacking bowlers. Even Goswami looks like what Kapil Dev was during his later years. Not sure if we have a dearth of bowlers.

Tough to believe that it is (mostly) the same side India beat 2-0 (in WI) in 2019.
Even I was surprised when I read this article, https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/e...ontier-1303386 and found that ENG has won the test series just once in last 50 years and not since 2003-04.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Match#22 Women's World Cup-

India beat Bangladesh comfortably by 110 runs.
India- 227/7 in 50 overs
Bangladesh- 119 all out in 40.3 overs

Star performers for India-
Shafali Verma- 42 of 42 balls
Yastika Bhatia- 50 of 80 balls
Pooja Vastrakar- 30 of 33 balls and a bowling analysis of 6-0-26-2

And player of the match is awarded to Yastika Bhatia. I just don't get this logic!

She came in at ~15 overs and was there at crease till 44th over (India lost 5 wickets during this period). Typical Dravid style 'laid the foundation' innings.

Re: The Cricket Thread

After two snoozefests, the Australia Pakistan series has suddenly come to life with a sporting declaration from Australia.

I personally think it was too aggressive, and it might be a case of overcompensating for some defensive tactics in the second match.

With pitches being typical roads, Cummins might rue his declaration, especially with Smith dropping dollies. Final day target of 278 with 10 wickets in hand is actually gettable. Remember, that India scored 324 on the final day at Gabba.

It seems like that especially after the way Pak played in the second test. However, it's an uphill task for any team chasing 300+ in the fourth innings. Unless Pak play brilliantly, Aus should get this one.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I don’t think the declaration was that sporty. Pakistan have never really scored 3 an over for the entire innings in this series. Plus the scoreboard pressure on the final day. I predict 60% chances of the Aussies winning here.

The other interesting game is the one involving England. Their number 10 and 11 have scored the highest runs in their innings. WI have let them off the hook a little bit.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Aussies win the series !

The way the first two matches got drawn, I was expecting it to be another tame draw - even till lunch today. Nice series though...

I think the previous match, even though a draw was hardly a tame draw!

Great match today as well. Credit to Cummins- after the way Pak drew the match last time and batted out 2 days you could forgive him even if he had not declared that early, but he did and they won convincingly.

Re: The Cricket Thread

West Indies win 1-0. The greatest strength of WI is the team spirit. There wasn't a single individual who was a big star or the x-factor overshadowing the rest of the team; Every member made crucial contributions through the course of a series.

I've seen some great series in the recent past:
1. RSA v India
2. WI v England
3. Australia vs Pakistan

.....and I hope the glorious game never dies.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The memorial for Shane Warne was a befitting tribute to arguably the greatest cricketer of the last century. Still can’t believe that the man is no more. The memorial was attended by almost all his contemporaries and he was fondly remembered by all. Sharing the link here:

Re: The Cricket Thread

Nice to see something written about the people who work behind the scenes to make matches possible:

https://indianexpress.com/article/sp...mfort-7854471/

"This IPL season, confectionery company Cadbury decided to provide five-star accommodation to reward the unsung ground staff. They have also been given uniforms designed by celebrity designer Masaba, food, and a bus to ferry them from the hotel to the ground and back."

"He remembers how different, and often difficult, it was before. As the matches often end late — their shifts end much later — they couldn’t return home. So they would spend the night in a small room below the Vittal Divecha Stand at the stadium, where mosquitoes made sleep difficult."

Hope this is not just a one-off. While 5-star acco and designer uniforms need not be the norm of course, at least better lodgings or transport back home for ground staff after each match should be the least every cricket association can provide.
