Hope Pant, Jadeja, Shardul can get us to 250+ at least.

Going by England's recent form, this will be tough.

The stats are against us as well - we've lost the last 6 tests played at Edgbaston with 3 of them being innings defeats!
It can swing any way however we had a terrible start

Remember, India has to play for a draw and England has to win. Considering their current form and intent, they will come all guns blazing for a win. That opens up a possibility for our bowlers to either come out good or get doomed!

I don't think India will attempt a draw from day 1, that can horribly backfire. Most teams play positive which is why more and more tests are now ending with a result.

Back to this game, with a lower order resurgence they've taken the fight to the English camp, it's an interesting situation now. Pant, take a bow

Edit:on the positive side of stats - India has won 12 out of 14 tests overseas since 2015 when they scored more than 300 in the first innings.

Well we ve already crossed 250. All thanks to Pant and Jadeja. For a while now, these two have been the most dependable batsmen for us in tests

Pant is playing an extraordinary knock today. One of the best counter-attacking innings you will ever see on the opening day of a test!

i think about the time when the whole stadium used to chant "DHONI-DHONI "

Re: The Cricket Thread

I enjoyed the day. Was a good watch. Hoping we continue to wag and hit 400 somehow. Let’s see.

Broad was very pedestrian and slow. I don’t think he’ll continue bowling the red ball for England anytime soon, after this test.

While it was ‘delicious’ to watch Pant, I wonder how he keeps losing his balance ever so often. He can’t stay steady after a heave or a pull or a whack down the pitch. He either falls or struggles to stay steady.

.
IF the selectors had any doubt about your suggestion, Bumrah just cleared it all with his 35- Run over :

mind bowing stuff from Bumrah ..

Bumrah did some magic there. But that doesn't need to cast any shadows over Broad's capability.
He ended with a stats of 18-3-89-1. If not for that 35 , it could have been 18-3-59-1 which would have been next best to Anderson in the innings. Even now, his performance is 3rd among the 6 bowlers who bowled the innings.

It's just Broad's destiny to be figured into record books. For one reason or other he gets to be remembered - may be even more than Bumrah

Edit: in 156 matches, Broad scored 3470 runs and took 550 wickets at economy of 2.94.

Bumrah has been improving his batting over the last few test series.

What a day for him :
  • A world record 35 in an over in tests.
  • The 2 early wickets so far.

May just be his day today.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Guess who we spotted today morning at breakfast ? He came quietly, ordered an idli-vada. A polite dignified demeanour through out.

Not sure how many noticed him, or if a few - like me - didnt want to intrude.

England sent in a nightwatchman & Bairstow is batting at a strike rate of 25. Whatever happened to the theory of BazBall & playing positive brand of cricket!

Not sure how many here recognized him in one look.

His beard looks squarely different because of its unusual cut.

You could have just wished and told him y many connoisseurs of the game still have a huge respect for him .

Yes, that beard. But those stocky arms that executed those square-cuts - noticeable.

A family friend knows him well - also SG, and quite a few from those days, including players from the WI team. Have requested my friend to convey my regards
