If this is of any solace, one of the FM radio channels had got one astrology guru this noon and his prediction is that post November 2022, Kohli will do things far greater than what he’s done thus far.

Kohli - given his reactions to his dismissals of late, he is not thinking ahead but rather is waiting like a bunny in the car headlights for something to come off. His head is not in the right place. Should take 2-3 month break , enjoy himself. Probably play only gully cricket or 6 a side games so the enjoyment comes back.
2 reasons -

First, Management themselves said Ashwin isn't in contention for World cup so his selection for Windies T20 makes no sense. Either keep him in contention and don't make idiotic statements or select only players who you want to take to WC.

Second, Ashwin is most important for us in Test matches. There is no one like him. We are invincible in India cos of Ashwin and Jadeja. We have tons of options for white ball cricket. Don't need Ash to get injured playing it and missing tests.

Team management seems to tell stuff to fill air time.
Remember Rayudu? And, they can reverse themselves anyway - nothing is contractual!

The second reason does not apply to Rohit? Bumrah?

And they don't pick him for a pitch they thought will spin (5 th test, England. See Dravids statements after the loss)

I think in any type of cricket, your top 3 batsmen and top 3 bowlers should be on. Bits & pieces can be the rest.

And what is Ashwin doing in T20 again when these guys explicitly said he is in no plans for World cup.
Shreyas Iyer is on my why list too, he is getting chance from 4 years. Ashwin should probably announce his retirememt from T20I's for the sake of selectors.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Another master class from Kohli's bat, they should send him for rest right now itself before he plays such a master class innings again. I was such a huge fan of his batting, so disheartening too see him is such a shape.

What is even more sad is that he still continues to think he is same old master class and refuses to change.

I get the feeling that the advise he is getting on his career and life in general is from the wrong sources. That is perhaps the reason why he started making those woke statements in the media since a few years back, completely unrelated to cricket.

Players of the same stature of yesteryears did not get half the rope that he is getting. There is no shame in going back to domestic and get his rhythm back. While there is a huge gulf in standards, it has worked for out of form greats, including the current BCCI president. Can't believe that this miserable streak is doing him any good, not to speak of the side which is one batsman short going into every game.

But then again, if indeed there is some truth to my conjecture, it's unlikely he will see reason

Kohli collected the ball and gave it to Prasidh Krishna at bowling end during 48th over. I saw it. He was collecting it very well. Thus he justified his selection in this team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Disclaimer: I am not a Kohli fan, infact I dislike him for his arrogance.

I feel all the arm chair critics are being a little unfair towards him, yes, he has not been performing well, he is supposed to and that is why he is there in the Indian National team. I am 36 and I play local tournaments as a captain of my team. There have been times when I could not perform, no matter what I tried, no matter how much I wanted to, it just does not happen. I make all kinds of strategy, in my mind, I am 100% sure that it will work but it just does not. Cricket or any sport for that matter is a combination of hard work, agility, mental strength, practice and a little bit of luck. Sometimes, you are not just destined to score or take wickets no matter how good you are. There are hardly any audiences for our matches but the kind of pressure I feel is something I can't explain. I can not even imagine the amount of pressure these guys playing at those levels feel. It must be unnerving. I have lost my sleep on couple of occasions because I could not perform in back to back matches. I feel for Kohli and players like him. I hope he has what it takes to get through this phase. I sincerely hope.

He should be dropped out of the team and should be taught a lesson about his arrogance. However, at the end, he is doing his job but selectors are not, they should be reminded of their job and as for Kohli, I hope he learns his lessons real quick, get a little humble and get the cricket gods by his side soon, for his sake and for India's sake.

We get your point but Kohli is part of a National Team. There are several deserving players available to replace him immediately. It is expected to be highly competent and have a higher percentage of consistency when you play for a Country as against for a club. Kohli need to be dropped and asked to play the Ranji, County or any other Domestic Cricket. He is a skilled player and have gone through the grind earlier and there is no doubt he cannot do it again. Who would know this better than the current BCCI President.

The selectors are just overawed by Virat's personality I feel! Sometimes the squad is announced late in the night & selectors briefing the press has completely stopped. We probably need someone like Vengsarkar, who as a selector was sacked because he selected Virat ahead of Badrinath during Srinivasan's regime.

Some of the greats like Vishvanath, Kirmani, Kapil Dev, Kumble Vengsarkar, Azharuddin were shown the door even when they were fit to play for couple of years. This is too much of preferential treatment to Shreyas Iyer, Kohli to even drop them. There is no cricket without arm chair viewers.

He doesn't figure in the final 11 purely because Jadeja can bat well and his current form and hundred in that test shows the same. Also, Jadeja's fielding is exemplary and that is one more thing working against Ashwin.

I maybe harsh here but Ashwin is terrific in India but his outside record doesn't speak much for what all he claims. He has been in the Indian test team for more than 10 years and he still doesn't have a 5-fer in any of the SENA countries. Compare that to how Warne or Muralitharan or even Lyon used to run through opposition in the same conditions.

All talks of reading batsmen's minds and playing mind games is all useless when it doesn't show in contributions to away wins. Team management is damn right when it comes to selection with respect to Ashwin. Must have in Indian pitches but Jadeja gets picked ahead in away conditions.

Agree except Kapil who stayed very long denying bowlers like Srinath to play in Indian conditions for long.

Re: The Cricket Thread

But Kapil quit at the age of 34, Vengsarkar was 35, Vishy was 32, these players played more competitive cricket. Kapil had just one bad match against WI, of course we are yet to find an alternative from 30 years. Vishy and Colonel had just one bad series.
