Reading about Rohit talking about Rahul having scored a century in England in 2021 was face palming time for me

Re: The Cricket Thread

In that entire post match episodes, especially during the interview with Dravid, how many of you felt that our dear Sanjay Manjrekar was generally clowning around? And probably hijacked the whole interview too? The more I see him and hear him, the more I feel something that I can’t describe. Man, I can’t hear him any more!

Edit :

Any idea why is there a long gap for the third test? It is scheduled from the 1st March.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Selectors, team management and Coach live in their own La LA land. Would have included Captain also but he isn't the prime decision maker while selecting the team.

This series was perfect opportunity for 2 things.

1. Gill as an opener.
2. Sarfraz as no.5

But, what they all did. Didn't even select Sarfraz in overall team. Played SKY who has no great domestic exploits in red ball. And played KL as opener. Cherry on the cake is he will even open in last 2 tests. Even Shami is playing batting better than him but decision makers are oblivious to this.

If India would have lost this game then change might have happened.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Jadeja is in serious contention for the best all-rounder from the Indian subcontinent ever and if he maintains his current form for the next 2-3 years, will be considered as one of the world's top 5 all-rounders ever, at par with Sobers and Kallis.

He may end up averaging 40 with the bat and 20 with the ball, not to mention that he is also one of the best fielder in the world.

Ashwin is already in the top 10 all-rounders ever IMO. His fitness has certainly affected his batting.

Axar currently looks to be the 2nd most technically sound batter on the team in the current series. In his short career, he is currently averaging 31 with bat and 15 with the ball.

Indian cricket fans of the 90s may shed tears of joy seeing these stats.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Delhi Capitals trolling. Does head coach Ricky Ponting approve?

The Cricket Thread-delhicapitalsshitpostingv0wnbjkbdl95ja1.jpg

Real Context: The Aussies under Pat Cummins are big on being environment friendly Looking at the pollution levels in Delhi, the whole team decided to join the Swach-Bharat Abhiyan and swept away their chances of taking back the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

I missed watching the match today. Is there any way to catch up on the full morning session? The highlights package on Hotstar is a joke.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It is confirmed that Bumrah will miss entire Australia series. Although KL Rahul retains his place in the side, the "superstar batter" is no longer vice-captain.

Report

Now the big question is- will Bumrah take part in IPL?

What kinda question is this.
Obviously he will be available for entire IPL.
No Indian player misses IPL and are always miraculously fit for it.
Mark my words.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is the worst Australian test team ever to have toured India. None of the batters have the techique to bat against good spinners on rank turning pitches. Also only one quality spinner Nathan Lyon is present in the Ausy team. So expecting a 4-0 drubbing for Australia in this series. The real challenge for India would be to win the WTC final in June to be played in Lords most probably against Australia. If India wins it then it would be a great achievement.

The second test was supposed to be till tomorrow after which there's a one week break. Unfortunately both tests combined have lasted for about five days only.

Coach's focus will be strategy and tactics that will win matches and series. Dravid has achieved that with 2-0 and India cannot lose the series. He won't be bothered whether K L Rahul plays or not. Selectors have to answer in what capacity K L Rahul is in the team. Another player who got a very long rope in Test cricket is Rohit Sharma, who performs well in India (Avg 71.96 ) and not so well overseas (Avg 31.26). Some get the rope and some don't.

In the 2018 5-test series with England in England, Rahul barely managed to reach double digits in the first 9 innings, and in the last innings of that series, he score 149 and he is still playing in 2023. So the answer is yes.

Some sentiment during that time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, these three in test matches have always been inconsistent and scores runs in every 10-15 test matches or so.
I guess with KL Rahul it's more of a mental blockage than any technique issue.

If an Indian test batsman cannot reach a career average of 40+ even after 8 years, I don't know what the talk of
'Anyone with potential will be given an extended run' by team-management means,
especially considering there's one batsman in the squad in red-hot form of his life and there is another one banging at the selector's door trying to force his way through by scoring tons of runs in First-class cricket with 13 100s, avg. of 80 and at a strike rate of 70.

By the way, below is something interesting data I could collect.
Consistently averaging of around 26, with no 100s for the past 3 years
No, I'm not infering anything out of it, just putting things into perspective
