Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I got two cash back credits of 9.87 to my ICICI Fastag account. Checked the site and shows credited for the usage of months February and March. I had traveled in these months to my hometown though. Could not make out what the credits are for? Are they paying interest for the balance ?

After Demonetisation was announced 2-3 years ago, the government also introduced a cashback of 10% on Fastag usage to promote digital payments (similar to cashback on fuel payments using debit cards). I think this was subsequently reduced to 7.5% last year.

These are processed few months after the usage hence you see the credits now for usage in February/March.

The usage in the month of Feb and Mar were 395 each. Then I must have received only 2.49% then.

I haven't been tracking the cashback revisions in a long time, it could have been revised downwards to 5% and then subsequently 2.5%

The cashback offer of 2.5% from NHAI was till March-2020. There is no discount/cashback on toll payments using FASTag for FY 20-21.

I received the cashback for March two days back.

Government plans to make FasTag mandatory on all 4 wheelers starting 1st January 2021 as well as for availing a new third-party vehicle insurance from 1 April, 2021.

“After the rules are amended, a vehicle can be challaned if FASTag is not fitted in the car," the official explained.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Is there any way to get a fastag over the counter? I have to travel tomorrow, and unfortunately forgot to stick the tag I had gotten from HDFC on the car, and its untraceable now.
If its not possible to get one, do the YEW and ALE still have cash lanes? Someone was telling me that these two expressways dont use fastag atll. Totally confused.
From Noida to centre of lucknow, using YEW and ALE, will there be any instances where I will hit an NH?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but now you can recharge your FASTag via BHIM

1) Login to BHIM.
Select Bill Pay

2) Select your FASTag issuer entity

You can recharge your Tag or even your CUG wallet via all the UPI apps including BHIM by using the unique UPI ID of your Fastag or your CUG Account. This is something most of us here have been doing since more than a year now. I mostly use BHIM as I have added my tag as a beneficiary. Very rarely I use Gpay.

The only obstacle that stops you from recharging via UPI is when the service provider has not enabled the UPI ID feature for your tag and the UPI app doesn't recognize your UPI ID.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I wanted to change from ICICI to paytm fastag. ICICI is good but since my other car has paytm fastag and I find it more convenient, I wanted paytm fastag. I have no complaints about ICICI fastag but it's almost impossible to close it if you sell your car or for some other reason.

Somehow, after 2-3 months, I managed to close ICICI fastag. It took one month after complaint at consumerhelpline.gov.in.

No response to multiple service requests on their website, service requests on phone, complaints on twitter to @FASTag_NETC (with #icicifastag #icici @ICICIBank @ICICIBank_Care in loop).

Anyway, I was ok even if it was not closed because I had a working fastag and I am not selling the car but it can be a learning for BHPians who urgently need to close their ICICI fastag when they sell the car.

So, can I apply for paytm fastag now or should I wait for refund or any other status update?

The current status is:

I dont remember the exact steps, but both ICICI and PayTM automated the account closure process. When i sold my car in March this year, I just had to use the option available in the ICICI portal which asked for bank details to refund. There was no issues at all. Same case with PayTM as well, refunded back to the main wallet.

Probably, ICICI has changed the process now.

I closed paytm fastag in April'2019 when I sold my Swift and it was absolutely hassle-free.

Maybe, but I still see Close Account option in the portal under customer service menu.

Maybe if someone wants to close, can try this option

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I have been using the SBI Fastag since more than a year. What I have observed is that the tag is unreadable 8 out of 10 times on highways. On many occasions, I have also been let through without any payment.
I went to Gujarat last year and it was opposite. The tag was readable 8 out of 10 times.
Are SBI tags prone to this or it's the toll sensor issue?
Note: I do not have any sun film and always clean the glass with the car's wiper before any toll plaza.
What could be the issue?

A fellow user of the SBI FasTag here.

My experience with the tag can be divided into two phases.

In the beginning, I had wrapped the tag in a transparent cover and stuck it to the windshield using a cello tape. Despite altering its position a few times, the tag wasn't being read properly. This was across all toll plazas.

Upon sticking the tag directly to the windshield - exactly at the centre from its horizontal edges and just below the IRVM, it is being read regularly; at least 8 out of ten times.

I do have some bones to pick with SBI FasTag though:
  1. Cash back has never been credited
  2. Every recharge needs an extra 10-15 rupees as convenience charges, even though i hold a SBI account. No possibility of adding money via BHIM UPI too.
  3. The toll deduction sms takes its own sweet time in arriving.
