I did read in today's Times of India that KCR is planning to move into Begumpet Camp office.. not sure how true this news is though.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, et

For some strange reason, there was a huge bottleneck this morning around 9 am near Filmnagar Jn and another one at 920 am at Wipro Jn in Financial District.

The one at Wipro Jn delayed us by 15 minutes. Only on crossing the Junction did I come to know that some carelessly left police barricades were causing the issue. I guess they used those for vehicle checking in the wee hours, and did not care to move them to the side in the morning.

If I have some time to spare, I check for cops.
If there are none and the barricades appear to be just randomly placed.
I push them away.

I used it 6 months ago, but there was a deep trench at the place where that road meets the pucca road near Virtusa, and I had to use all my skills to get my car around it. I'd like to use that stretch if things are better now. It shaves off both time and distance on my return trip home, when I go there to pick up my wife, which is around once every two weeks.
Here's an update on this shortcut. Forced by the bottleneck at Wipro Circle this morning, I ventured out on this shortcut. The makeshift road is only for 150 meters, and one needs to carefully trudge along in 1st gear to avoid bottoming the car. I will use it regularly now, as it does save time and distance. Only negative is the number of speed-breakers at Nanakramguda village upto ORR. But it does help in avoiding 2 busy junctions: one at Wipro and the other at IIIT.

Below is a link to the shortcut.

No, Its not that they have left some Barricades carelessly, its placed intentionally for free left turn.

Monday morning i saw all the traffic inspectors standing and trying to do some traffic engineering. They have installed permanent barricades for free left turn on Wipro side and financial district side. There are very few vehicles using this free left turn, so in-turn it had narrowed down road for other users, so there is this pile-up from last 3 days. And there is no traffic police or any officer to monitor if its working or have created problem. Hope they realize soon this is not working.

I passed through the same spot yesterday at the same time, and there was no bottleneck, except the 3-minute green signal wait. I don't remember seeing the barricades yesterday. I did see one today which was right in the middle of the center lane.

I am seeing it daily from Monday, White barricades with compulsory left on both roads. Even yesterday i had to pass 3 signals at 9-30 AM, today 3 signals at 9 AM.

Three traffic violations and you will lose your license.

Three traffic violations and you will be grounded. Traffic police is preparing to read out this riot act as the number of deaths on the road has spiralled to alarming levels. The shock demise of cabinet minister Gopinath Munde, who was not wearing a seat belt, has pushed the traffic officials into a corner.

The rules like mandatory seat belts for both front and rear passengers, helmets for two-wheeler riders, and obedience to signals which are followed more in the breach currently, would be strictly implemented, say police sources.

Applauding the prospect of new rules, A Bharadwaj, of a city-based organisation that works towards road safety says, "Making stricter rules is the need of l the hour as death on roads is the major issue that plagues us. It is great that the government is mulling to bring better laws."

Focussing on proper implementation of laws, Bharadwaj says, "While many laws are made, when it comes to when it comes to implementation we fall behind. Until we can do that, our roads won't be safer."

According to a WHO report, WHO report, India has the highest number of road deaths in the world — 1,05,725 in 4,00,000 accidents in 2013. In the first four months of this year, Hyderabad has seen 852 ac cidents and 105 people have lost their lives. But it doesn't seem to be a deterrent at all.

Running late, comfort and sometimes, sheer thrill of it, are a few reasons why people don't follow rules, or so it seems. Dinesh, a biker says, "I do jump signals when I am running behind schedule. Though I know it is a wrong thing to do, I still do it sometimes."

For Anju Gupta, strapping herself is a lot of discom fort. She says, "I find it really un find it really un comfortable to drive with the seat belt on, so I don't wear it generally."

Additional com missioner police (Traffic) Jitender, however, feels that making laws won't bring a change unless there's self-discipline.

"People should understand that all these laws are for their own safety. It isn't that we get any pleasure in making people abide by rules, we just want their safety. And until they want it for themselves and their families, no change can happen."

A WHO report has shown seat belts, when used, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger by 45% and rear passenger by 75%. Wearing a helmet too cuts the risk of death by 40% in riders, say the report.

Then, why can't people simply follow the rules? Jitender adds, "Carelessness and ignorance are the major reasons. They need to value their life as well as of others."

The Balkampet- HPS Begumpet (Hyderabad Public school) stretch has opened for traffic. It is 2.5 kms short cut. While going from Fatehnagar to HPS, after getting down the Fathenagar flyover, you need to take the left just before the IOC petrol bunk.

Is it a fly-over that would take the commuters upto HPS or is it only a normal road. I have this doubt because I see a bridge near HPS (Beside Begumpet fly-over) that goes towards Balkampet side.

Yes it is a flyover that starts HPS side to Fathenagar and back. The bridge starts diagonally opposite Varun Motors - beside the first temple (when coming from Begumpet side).

I haven't tried that as yet, shall see how it goes and where it lands in the Fathenagar area.

Not sure what they were waiting for last 3 years. Maybe for KCR to come to power. I actually traveled on it on foot way back in December and it was all ready with auto's parked.

It is huge time saving and to criss cross over Ameerpet traffic.

Yes, the Fatehnagar - HPS flyover is a huge saving in terms of time, distance, traffic congestion. As of now, the road quality is good as its hardly 1.5 months old. A couple of points to note

1) Extremely useful for traffic coming from Sanatnagar Police station side ( Remember to go under the Sanath nagar - Balanagar flyover as there is no right turn on flyover to go towards Balkampet.

2) The road from Balanagar - Fatehnagar flyover is in shambles with moon surface and I would rate it as virtually non-existent. Hence use Sanatnagar route.
