Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

So I got the first annual service done on my 1.2 P, and they charged me for only 3 liters of engine oil! The SA confirmed that they drained the old oil. Isn't that too little then? All the invoices I've seen here show 5 liters with the balance returned.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I now have both central vents to replace. Odd how they broke within a week or three of each other.

This is absurd: such parts should last the age of the car.

I got my engine mounts replaced under warranty at the first service, when I reported what I thought was a suspension fault along with sounding like a diesel when idling.

The complete set of all four vents in black trim is for 3000 and the chrome trim ones are for 4000. I bought the black ones as i already had the chrome trim on my older vents and its mounted on the vents via clips, so removed the chrome trim from the old ones and fixed them onto the new ones and fixed them back into the car.
Parts were sourced from AVS Tuning.

The invoices you may have seen maybe of those who had to buy 5 ltr packing due to unavailability of smaller packing. Petrol 1.2 takes little over 3 ltrs so its okay. If you have any doubt then you check the oil level in the morning.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I just had my second service of my 1.2 P trendline done at Palace Cross. The bill came upto Rs 17010 which was disappointing. The car had done only 15k kms and was in perfect condition except for ac vents. Was given an initial estimate of 11k and then revised it 15k saying that the Lock carrier had to be changed.

Will provide the detailed break-up later. I guess if not for the vents and lock carrier, it would have been about 9 k.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Hey!
Just been informed at the 6 months check up that the lock carrier has been damaged on my Polo 1.2P. EVM Trivandrum claim it's a tough job and will cost 6200+tax. But the invoices here show amounts near the 4k mark.
So is it okay to drive with a broken lock carrier to the next service showroom which is around 60kms away?

Aravind, did your car's front bumper or its underneath take a hit anytime? The lock carrier is a huge assembly that houses the radiator, fans and other components. Here's an image from the VW Workshop Manuals (link):

The manual (link) specifically mentions that this is a safety relevant component and must not be repaired but replaced.

You've driven around all this while (6000+ km?) not knowing that the lock carrier was damaged. An additional 60 km wouldn't hurt if another service center can give you a better judgment. But I'll let you take the call.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Folks, help please.

Have anyone of you done your wheel alignment and balancing from a VW service station ? If yes what is your feedback? Do they do the job well? How much would it cost.
If someone from Pune can throw some light, it would be great.
If you have good options in the city that also would help .

Cheers.

I do not understand enough to comment whether it was a good job or not but the invoiced cost of wheel alignment during annual servicing last month was Rs 674 and wheel balancing was Rs 449 (including tax).

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

I have posted this question on Gannu's GT thread as well but I think this is perhaps the right place.

There is a lot of information in Maruti and Hyundai manuals about what to service for each service interval. This puts a lot of information in the hands of the customer which is essential in the Indian context.

In the VW owner's manual or service booklet I am unable to find any such information. The information that I am referring to is the following:

1. Oil change interval (VW does have a flexi service interval which I don't think is applicable to India for the Polo.)
2. Oil quantity
3. Coolant quantity, gear oil quantity
4. Fuel filter change interval.

Is there any place where this information can be found?

Drive on,
Shibu.

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Was hunting around for a VW service schedule and this seems reasonable.

http://www.worldvw.net/Service_Menu#10000 miles

At 40K MILES the dust and pollen filter replacements are to be inspected and replaced if necessary.

However the 15K service schedule on the Skoda site for the 1.6 diesel does mandate the following
1. Oil/Oil Filter replacement
2. Air filter replacement
3. Pollen filter replacement
4. Dust filter replacement
5. Fuel filter replacement

I am thinking of scratching #3 and #4 for the 15K service and get it done on the 30K service.
Drive on,
Shibu.

Can you share the breakup. I just completed 20K service of diesel swift which cost me 9660. Friend's diesel Vento which completed 20K service as well was 9K. So hopefully petrol cars service cost should be less. Are you using synthetic oil?
