Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Our car took a hit today. Banged into a private bus on a bad road with lots of potholes and obstructions due to a bridge under construction.

The front bumper is damaged, dented & torn, just below the front right headlight.

What are our best options:

1) Can the bumper be repaired and repainted?

2) Does it need replacement?

3) If yes, what is the cost of the front bumper?

Posting a picture of the damage.

Thanks Akshay,

Apart from being dented, the bumper is punctured and torn and has a hole of upto an inch?

Can it still be repaired? Will it look the same again or will it look bad?

Do you know the cost of a new bumper in case the service guys refuse to repair it?

I think AMC is totally different from the Extended Warranty in case of Polo.
AMC takes care of regular service of car with engine oil etc.

Below are the Inclusions as per the Extended Warranty which is applicable till 04yrs/100000 kms (after the expiry of default warranty of 2yrs/unlimited kms), hope this helps you -
  • Engine
  • Gearbox (Manual & Automatic)
  • Suspension and Steering
  • Braking System
  • Fuel System (Mechanical & Electrical)
  • AC
  • Electrical Systems
  • Oil Seals
  • VW Approved accessories
Polo Owners : Can anybody confirm whether during first service the left over engine oil is replaced or just top up ?

Sad to hear your ride taking the hit. The damage does not look too bad.
It can be repaired and you won't be able to tell the difference once reshaped and painted. Get in touch with your VW A**, they will give you the exact details. Even if they insists on replacing the bumper, push them to get it reshaped (for the hole the they can heat the bumper and fill the gap).

For the cost of front bumper - you can refer the 1st page of this thread, I posted the price with painting.

Engine oil is to be changed every 15k kms/ 1 year in polo. Top ups may be needed within these 15k kms, say 500 ml every 6-8k kms..

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

A few queries for Polo Owners.
1)Does the warranty get void,if one gets aftermarket alloys 15 inchers on 195 Section tyres.
2)After Market ICE,Amp,compos,Sub and all, does it void warranty?
3)How is the GC on bad roads, does it bottom out often?
4)How is engine behaviour for 1.2TDI over time, how are the NVH levels, after few thousand kms?
5)Front fog lamps are insanely priced(15-18K),any options in the open market,or cheaper options online?

YES. Changing the profile of the tyre is not recommended as VW will void all suspension, brake warranties.

2)After Market ICE,Amp,compos,Sub and all, does it void warranty?

They do not say that specifically. But if you don't mess with the electrical stuff (cut wires), they can't void the warranty.

3)How is the GC on bad roads, does it bottom out often?

GC is very good. Never have I felt it bottom on a speed bump.

4)How is engine behaviour for 1.2TDI over time, how are the NVH levels, after few thousand kms?

I'll let the TDI owners comment on that.

5)Front fog lamps are insanely priced(15-18K),any options in the open market,or cheaper options online?

You can always install aftermarket fog lamps at a much lesser price.

Please check with your VW dealer and speak with the senior most guy dealing with insurance/body shop. Better to visit with your car and talk in person. Rear Bumper paint is 5K, Front Bumper paint is 2.5k - Polo. Sharing this as per the conversation I had with the concerned person when I visited dealer because of the ... please refer below link for the Misc part -

Polo owners can advise.

I cant believe how ASCs can charge for more oil. Unbelievable. Also, would request to post service details which might answer queries of other Polo diesel Owners..

Thanks. Gaurav
I couldn't let it pass so I rang the service advisor and casually asked him about the oil tank capacity for both 1.6 Petrol and 1.2TDI engines. He first mentioned 3L for 1.6 petrol and 3.5L for 1.2 TDI. I was taken aback at that point and asked him why he charged me 5L for my 1.2TDI! He was quick in his reply that he wasn't at the work shop and that he would talk to me later and hung up! I called up the sales person and gave them a piece of my mind. I didn't get a convincing answer because they kept hanging up when I asked them to justify the bill. So I went personally last Saturday and there wasn't an inch of space in and around the showroom. I was determined in finding out the exact capacity. I read the entire owners' manual but couldn't find the exact figure.

So on Saturday, the service advisor kept showing job cards for different cars with 1.2TDI and pointed at the 5L. I argued that even I can edit the bill in MS Excel and alter it! He pretended to not understand and I was stern in my response. I asked him to physically show the capacity in the car. He didn't budge but when I gave him my business card his response was just the opposite! I work for Mann and Hummel filter private limited, in the fuel filter R&D department. He knew there was no escaping now. He was quick in guiding me to the workshop and introduced me to a mechanic who said the capacity was 4.5L! I asked him at that point as to why did he mention 3.5L on the phone. He had no answer. I didn't want to push it too hard. He later started asking if there were openings in my office for someone he knew!

So moral of the story is: if you are in the Automotive industry, don't feel ashamed to flash your business card. People will fall in line!

Re: VW Polo - Maintenance and Service cost and dos/don'ts

Thanks Avon,

I have fixed an appointment with a senior service guy at VW 2morow but meanwhile, noticed something:

Notice the area between Black Line A & Black Line B and between the 2 Yellow Arrows. There is a gap of more than 1cm between the bumper and the headlight. Apart from the bumper being bent downwards, the headlight also seems to have shifted upwards contributing to the increased gap. The bumper must have pushed the headlight upwards when it bent during the force of the impact.

Notice the same area in the other picture of the left hand side headlight and bumper. Wonder if this can be rectified by the service guys?

I have a 0% depreciation cashless policy

Car with more damage are rectified to the original state. Don't worry, your ride will be restored to its original state soon. I can understand how it feels with even a small scratch.
