EBay India has started selling some good brands

Mothers, Megs, Carrand, Turtlewax, Lexol etc are now available thru Ebay India. But the price is three times of USA. Good selection of Microfibre cloths, cleaning brushes, leather products, foam applicators etc are being offered. Folks who do not have access to US can look at a selective assortment (though expensive). If you plunge in please read the review of the product first if your are not sure !! Megs Clay kit is available for Rs. 1900 or so.

If you dont have access to US stores directly, it is always better to order from SYW. IK found them to offer the best prices amongh all the overseas shopping sites. And you can of course order anything from Amazon. Bestbuy etc. I have been a regular user of that portal especially for items that are difficult to bring from abroad such as liquids, heavy/bulky items etc.

It is a China polisher. My experience with these (chinese machines) was the speed controllers burnt out too quickly. Also from the specs of the machine, I personally prefer the Makita 9227C as its speed starts from 600 rpm. If you are an experienced polisher than 1000 rpm should be no problem for you. The advantage with this polisher is they have an India office, which I found out. So servicing issues should not be there.

I think Skil is a pretty respectable company and they are part of Bosch. Machine should be good.

As per my knowledge gained from the detailing wizards in BLR(mkh and nirmaljustdoit) always rely on a good polisher preferable a DA polisher.
You can PM them to find out what they use. The ones they use are around 30K i guess. This is a huge difference.
I also had a similar question and link in the same thread.
BottomLine:- A good DA is a requirement if you dont not want to spoil your paint and get a very good sparkling mirror like finish like the below

Damn, from some angles that Acura looks like it's got a chrome finish. I bet he never gets caught for speeding, coz a radar would just bounce off that car. LOL

But i feel the darker car shades usually give out the best results due to higher contrast levels.

This is a rotary/circular polisher.
You will find the specs here :

http://www.skil.co.in/skil/l0/produc...er%20Guide.pdf

The polishing plate does not have hook & loop attachment - many circular polishers do not. So, as far as polishing pads are concerned you will need ones which directly screw on to the spindle. You will get a generic pad with the unit. Look at the Edge pads in Autogeek to get an idea about pads for this unit. If you have not used polishers earlier a DA unit is safer choice. As such the product looks OK and should deliver good results in capable hands.

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

RK_Sans - Not sure of this model, it looks to be a rotary with quite a competitive price. Check the reviews of this machine on the net & note that its a rotary, not a DA, hence risk of burning the paint would be there. Please also check the backing plate details to see which type & makes of pads that can be used with it. VMC has correctly pointed out that a proper DA is the best if you are planning a DIY kind of paint correction. If starting out with a rotary, better to get some second hand painted panels or be ready to repaint your existing panels while on the learning curve !

I have a Clif Rotary polisher and its quite decent!!

Though it starts at 800RPM, you can actually vary the speed by pressure!
I use it mostly to work on thin panels like the A,B and C pillars and some curvy parts of the bumpers etc.

With it I was easily able to remove 1200grit sanding scratches with M105 and a 4" orange pad!

I kinda like the rotary as it makes less noise and vibration and works really-really quick!!

I have various backing plates for my rotary polisher(hook and loop) a 3" one and a 5" one!

Both take normal pads easily!

EDGE uses double sided pads(more economical), but since in a edge pad, the plate is kinda in between the pad, it might be risky if you apply some pressure where the edge of the plate is, inside the pad.

I'd use Edge pads for mostly straight panels, like non-contoured bonnet, trunk, doors etc.

^^ Sohail, what's your polisher's model number? I was in Chandni Chowk a few days back & inquired on the prices of DeWalt. I was given a quote of 3.5K without any bargain & the device looked the same as yours. I am expected to go back there this coming weekend & would like to see if it is indeed a different model or the same one (in which case, the prices may have been slashed heavily ).

Drive safe.

Nirmal,

For academic's sake,

what does that the DA do, that the rotary doesn't or can't do?

Please revert.

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

^ I feel that with a DA, you can finish better on a soft paint!

But a rotary cuts through oxidation and hazed surface super fast!(but if one isn't experienced with a rotary, a rotary polisher can even burn through the clear coat if not used properly!)

If I'm given a abused finish, I'd compound and finish with a rotary and jewel with a DA.

Basically, if you're starting machine polishing, never go beyond a dual action polisher!

As you become more experienced, you can step into rotary polishers and then finally perfect them!

But for ppl maintaining their own cars, a rotary is generally not needed.
Its mostly for detailers who have to do each of the steps of compounding and finishing, fast and with perfection!

Bought a bottle of Amway Silicone glaze. Now does one need to apply a wax after applying Amway silicon Glaze.
