^^ Hey mate, seeing your armory, I wanted to ask a doubt. What is the difference between the two car shampoo bottles from Sonax? One of them contains a light yellow coloured solution & the other one is orangish.

Drive safe.

Yellow is Windscreen wash concentrate
Orange is Gloss Shampoo
I hope this will clear your doubts.

@sagar,
Let me know how is mother's clay bar. I have seen Meg's clay bar at action but want to know about mother's CB also. Please update after using it.

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Detail gurus,
There is some white patches on the side plastic skirts on my i10 and this is because of my negligence on the initial days of detailing on my car. It is the tech wax on those panels. I tried using IPA but it was of no use.
Any other suggestions ?

Just keep adding good plastic polish like Turtle Wax Platinum Series or Megs, nothing that i have seen can be done at all.I just keep them black enough, even i had done this mistake! Will be glad if someone can share something else

Yup! that happens quite often(painters tape not easily available here for masking trim)

Wax deposition on textured plastic trim requires scrubbing that trim piece with a toothbrush(improvise) and a strong yet car safe cleaner(Degreaser or any paint and trim safe all purpose cleaner)

You can start with using a car wash shampoo in a spray bottle and a tooth brush and just scrub.

After you get it off, protect the trim with a good protectant like those mentioned by mkh!

To prevent that from happening in the future, dress the trim first and then apply sealant. That way, even if wax is applied there by accident, you'll be able to remove it easily!

@rksans - Mother's clay bar system is a real VFM kit and its got great reviews all over the detailing forums!

I too have that but I'm still not done with Megs clay!

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Hey Guys, I finally for my Kestrel DAS 6 DA Polisher. It has come with 6'' backing plate. This is the 1st time i will be using DA polisher. Now all i need is Foam pads which i did not buy before as there was confusion that they will give 6'' or 5'' backing plate. I am thinking of buying the lake country kit. Please let me know if this should be sufficient? 6.5'' polishing pads is a perfect fit for 6'' backing plate?

Amazon.com: Dual Action Deluxe CCS Foam Pad Kit: Automotive

Also please please invite me for next session of mini detailing meet, so that i could also start developing my basic skill set

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

What is the difference between the Maroon/Red colored Meg QD which comes with Megs smooth clay kit and the regular black colored Meg QD ? Or is it the same in different colored bottle ? Or different series of product but same content ?

To the best of my knowledge all Mercs use PPG Industries CeramiClear for clear coat as OEM product. Different models may have more or less layers of CC. Now you know why denting costs the earth !

I have both, and clearly UQD(black bottle) is more easier to work with and leaves a very thin sealant coat behind(durability ~7 days is used on a properly prepped and pre-sealed paint)

The maroon bottle QD is a little less concentrated than UQD, but its ok for a surface cleanup if the car isn't dusty and is also good as a clay lube.

mild beading observed with it too but lasted not more than 2-3 days!

I wish I had bought UQD instead of that maroon QD bottle!

Now I use it on non critical paintworks and mostly as rim QD and clay lube!

re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Thanks Sohail. This clears my doubt. I have couple of bottles of UQD and i want to buy clay bar now and i was thinking why should i buy the whole Meg's clay bar kit ( which has a QD+clay bar + some sample clear wax). I can buy just the clay bar.

I do not know if it is available anywhere in bangalore. But probably we can check with the 3M outlet which has opened if he has it. If not, then we need to go thru amazon or autogeek, etc.
