No Sameerg, have not got it rectified yet. The reason partly being that this noise vanished for a few days. It is ery difficult to get it rectified unless I can "reproduce" the noise when SA is listening.

In the last month or so, I could hear this noise only once.

Are you facing similar issues?

What Sound? Squeaky sound from all over dashboard

Where? It's coming from the dashboard and glass piece in front of speedo

When? Mostly on bad stretchs

Car? 2012 Swift ZDI

Kms? Approx 10000 kms

Realy an irritating sound. Went to 2 service centers and they are not interested in solving or finding the cause

Reposting my question here as I did not get any replies in the Figo thread :

My TDCi Figo's engine sound has been becoming more prominent in the cabin over the past few weeks. This is post a 1200km+ highway trip with some amount of hill driving involved. It has done about 9.7k on the odo and is due for the second service. The sound is a groan noticeable at around 1800+ rpm. There is no noticeable loss of pickup or any other driving characteristic change.

Is this something normal for a car nearing its service schedule? Or should I be worried?

Re: What's that sound ??

I am totally out of options and have banged my head in all possible directions to find out the source of a knocking sound that comes from my "2006 Wagon r". The noise resembles a metallic tak-tak only when the engine is warm, there is no sound in the morning.

This is how I began debugging it

1. Removed fan belt the noise was still there
2. Removed AC belt and the noise reduced. MASS told me that I could be the tension bearing so I changed it also changed the timing belt. It gave a feel good factor for few hours but the noise returned.
3. The noise is prominent when there's load on the engine ( with AC and around 4 passengers)
4. My car is fitted with CNG and the I've noted the noise is more when run on petrol.
5. Since the noise is prominent when the ac is ON this makes me think if this could be due to crank OR the big-end bearing. Since ac belt is directly attached to crank.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the sound was there even before installing CNG so it is not the probable cause

I'll be glad if some one can give me some pointers to the possible source

Check the below post, I was getting a similar knocking sound from my Dzire which is resolved now. You can give it a try.

I also faced a similar noise issue in my old esteem. metallic clattering.
On inspection, the mechanic asked me to change the wires connected to the spark plugs, complete wiring system for around 1500-2000 rs as the car had already completed 1.2 lacs kms. Stopped using it after a while though.

Next time you get such noise, try and hold the clutch at that moment and check if the noise/knocking vanishes.

It is a very common issue with WagonR and Alto ( Pre K-Series Engine) and caused by the clutch and more prominent for VALEO make clutch (other OEM is Ceekay where this issue is almost negligible).

Try that and let me know.

Thanks Arun but that's not the kind of noise I'm getting , the noise is coming from inside the block , not even from the gearbox and doesn't resemble the tappet noise too

Thanks Parag : I remember the sound stays even if I hold the clutch but I'll still give it another try. I see come correlation as I've had 2 clutch replacements, first at 55K (Ceekay) and second at 81K (OEM Ceekay) the odo is at 89K now. The noise started coming within 1 year of ownership but was intermittent. I attributed it to a knock due to bad fuel and I also knew older gen wagonr's had similar sounds so I thought its common and never got it checked from MASS. But now the sound is prominent and stays

Just exploring the possibility : If the problem is due to big end bearing or crank , will it require a complete overhaul ? I think it should be possible just to change the big-end bearing by opening the sump ?

Re: What's that sound ??

krrrr krrrr
where : from the engine bay
when: stepping on the accelerator and giving more gas. Not everytime though. only sometimes.
car: 2003 Hyundai Santro Xing AT, done 63000 kms but lovingly cared.

Is it a frayed accelerator cable?

Thanks for the advice about the compressor- got the ac compressor overhaul work done and problem is rectified. I think the cost of replacing the compressor was saved with timely detection of the issue- thanks to the sound analysis done on this thread. As sound tells us the state of health of the car- timely preventive maintenance can save all of us some good bucks. Tanveer- i think this thread deserves to be Sticky!
Thanks for the thread

Hey there fellow Bhp-ians!
I think I might have the same kind of noise from my car as well.

Need your help in trying to understand the cause of this noise.
I've taken a video recording that clearly illustrates the noise coming from the engine.

What Sound? Clattering noise from a warm engine.

Where? From the engine bay.

When? ONLY when the engine is warm. The noise never comes during a cold start. Not dependent on Clutch, AC, load either. Noise is quite audible when the engine is idling.

Car? 2004 Chevrolet Optra 1.6 LS, Petrol

Please Note: The car has had its entire engine rebuilt from scratch, in august last year.
Every thing, apart from the con rods, was thrown away & new parts were put in.
This noise was not there when we rebuild was complete.
The noise has been rising steadily for quite some days now.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance, fellas!

Re: What's that sound ??

Symptom:Heard mild screeching from tyres on normal slow speed braking this morning (when driving on a smooth road).
Car, Odo:Swift Dzire, has done about 37K Km

Could this be brake pads needing replacement or the tyre tread wearing out and needing replacement ?
(I'm planning on getting this checked during the 40K service, do let me know if I need to go earlier).

Re: What's that sound ??

From few days I am noticing the following:

Whenever I fire up the engine, I hear a metallic 'clunk' kind of noise just before it starts. Also same kind of noise comes when its being shut off. It appears as if the engine is touching something when it shudders/shakes before coming into life or when it is switched off. What could be the reason? Engine mounts?

Car: Ford Figo Diesel
Kms: 20000
Year: 2010

too early to have failed engine mounts but hey you never know. obvious signs of engine mounts failure is increased vibration throughout the car when the engine is in idle rpm. well, as you suspect them its best you check them out, also check the transmission mounts as well.
My guess is exhaust mounts either dislodged or perished.
