re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

My civic's wiper blades were changed during the service in Aug last month. This morning when i went for a drive it started raining heavily.I swicthed on the wipers and they started to creak and groan during the downward motion.Upward they are fine but while going down they sounded as if they are trying to scratch out the windshield.

Anyone with a similar problem. Now the SA at my last service had mentioned about getting the windshield polished or something which i had refused.Does the windshield need any polishing etc to smoothen it out.The car is cleaned by the cleaner regularly and the screen was quite clean when it started to rain.

thanks

Its all about the fitting of the blades -if you are sure it's new. Remove them and refit if you can by yourself. It's a simple method. Else get it done in front of you from the HASS.

Ask the cleaner to be careful with the wipers. It's actually best if they don't touch it.

They pull out the wipers to clean the windshield and then go ahead to clean the wiper with their cloth. When they wipe down the wiper blade roughly with their cleaning cloth, it can mess up the wiper alignment.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

I am also quite fed up with the chattering of the right wiper. A new blade lasts for like 6-8 weeks before it starts chattering on the down. The left is perfect. Next monsoon I am thinking of replacing the entire set with Bosch. If anybody has any solutions I really would be grateful.

On a side note, I must say that I am really very happy with my tire choice of Yoko dbs 205/65. Using them since about 5 months and entire monsoon. The upsize has helped in so many ways, that I cannot help but recommend to all civic owners to put this on their priority list. Probably any brand would work. 205/65 is probably the tire that should have been OEM.

In spite of horrendous road conditions, the extra sidewall cushioning has ensured that there are no new rattles at all. The ride is so much better for my back. Grip levels are super and braking has improved greatly. GC has increased due to slight larger OD. The car looks better since the larger tires fill up the wells. I am getting at least 10% better fuel efficiency.

IMHO the 10% FE is due to a 2% odo error.

Yes, I am aware of the speedo error due to the 2% OD. From 6.5/7 kmpl I am now getting 8.5+. How would a 2% error result in 10% extra FE? It should be around 2% only. And as per that thread 2-3% speedo error is anyway the norm. In fact the 2% error works the other way around.

Happy to see Civic as having the highest IQ among all cars in the country as per JD Power survey

That's an extremely interesting statistic. Honda has the lowest pp100 in all the segments it sells in. Also, the corolla - traditionally seen as a very reliable car - has a higher pp100 than the civic.

Not just the Civic, even the Jazz and City are on the top in their respective segments. Well done Honda. Now that your cars are priced sensibly, do the same for the spares please.

Most probably the new blade is not square onto the glass. Have a good look and try to twist it a bit. Be careful, since you do not want to get a new arm as well.

You are looking for around 50 k for complete suspension including tie rods, tie ends, boots etc and other items u listed. Better get the suspension checked at an independent garage and get only worn off parts replaced. You won't really need complete setup change..
