I was advised to replace the strut bearings which costed 1.7K INR. The sound seemed to have gone temporarily only to surface again about a month back. Thanks to my hectic schedule due to a recent project change I had, I could take the car back to the HASS only last weekend.

The car was lifted up using a ramp and liberal doses of WD40 were sprayed in the suspension area. However, that did not help and the problem persisted. I was asked to leave the car with the HASS for a more detailed check-up on the ball joints and suspension. Now, I am hearing that the suspension is being overhauled and I can collect the car only tomorrow (delivery was promised today).

I am clueless as to what could be the actual problem. Has anyone encountered this issue with their Civic? Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks.
Please ask HASS what work they would be exactly carrying out when they mean 'suspension overhaul'. Are they just adjusting and re-torquing the suspension or are there any parts being replaced? How much mileage has your civic logged?

Suspension overhauls rarely happen before 60k mark unless there are factors which would contribute to faster wear and tear. At 15.5 k for 4 years your car has hardly run. Please get more clarity from HASS. Have been told that suspension boots can sometimes develop cuts leading to unsettled ride and noises.

Thanks. I feel the same way too. In fact there is no noise/issue whatsoever when the vehicle is in motion other than while making a turn slowly. This is not a show-stopper but I don't want to take it light. Will speak to the SA.

I also need to replace all wheel nut-bolts and left front seat back panel.
If solitaire andheri that you sent the car then they are the problem themselves.Kindly refrain from giving the car again to these morons.Linkway at chandivali is a little better if you must goto HASS.

You can contact Joe from Nakita Motors (tbhp dir). This guy is honest and would only use genuine parts.Else Jatin Patel from Wagen Werkz could help you out. Joe is at bandra , Jatin at santacruz. Take your pick.

I am not sure but this sound typically comes when the axle boot goes bust causing issues in the CV joint.Better get them to give a estimate before they do anything.I hope they informed you before going in for a suspension overhaul.

My car has a similar sound while turning the wheel at standstill. Do let me know what causes it. I'll get mine checked at an independent garage.

Here's what I posted in the Arya Honda thread. Since there hasn't been any action on that one, here's the link to my post about some upcoming expenses.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Folks,

Do any of you know where in Bangalore I can source the driver side glass window pane for Honda Civic?

Last week, I went to a resort just outside Bangalore and while the car was parked inside their property, some object seems to have been thrown onto the window glass pane. The entire glass pane was cracked when I came to start my drive back homw on Sunday evening.

I am planning to get this fixed outside HASS for cost reasons, also it will take about 8-10 days for the glass pane to be delivered from Noida to Bangalore. I am eager to hear your thoughts regarding this.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Got the car back this morning. I was told by the SA that the strut bearings that had been replaced earlier were faulty and that was the cause of the issue. They were replaced with a new pair and the sound is gone. However, it appears to me that the steering has become a tad hard. Have driven just about 12 kms since I took the car. Have to wait and watch for a couple of days to see if the issue resurfaces. I didn't have to pay anything for this work which was a relief.

The other issue I had asked to be rectified was that the turn indicator would not switch off on its own whenever I took a right turn and I had to manually do it. This is quite frustrating and I was told that the spring tension in the combination switch assembly had been adjusted to take care of the same. However, I don't see any major difference and 7 out of 10 times I have to switch it off manually. The SA said the assembly has to be replaced if the problem persisted and the cost of that was in excess of 4k INR. One expects quality to be concomitant with the Honda brand but not always I guess. Darn, my 11 year old Esteem has never had a niggle of this sort till date.

Was this done under warranty?

My vehicle is out of warranty but in some sense this would qualify for it since I had got the same job done 2 months ago and had paid for the strut bearings.

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Guys, Finally my car got done yesterday for pick up. Collected it around 8.45 pm after I left office.

Following items done:

Clutch plate, pressure plate and bearing replaced
Power steering Oil changed
Lower arm bush set replaced
Repairing Strg Ball joint & Tie Rod
Lower arm ball joint repairing

Due to a small argument in the suspension parts and pricing, the following items were left undone by the garage due to 'Trust' issues (though I only asked him in good faith). But still he insisted that he will not do it. So I had to accept his decision though I was ready to go ahead with the work as per his prices and suggestions.

However, in return he only charged me a nominal amount for fitting the old parts back together on suspension overhaul . So the undone items as per his estimates are:

FRONT LINK ROD SET
BALANCE ROD BUSH SET
REAR BRAKE PADS-SET
FRONT SHOCKABSORBERS - SET
FRONT SHOCKABSORBERS MTG-SET
FRONT SHOCKABSORBER BUFFER - SET

Based on the above, I have the following queries. Advice would be highly appreciated

With respect to the rear brake pads, I totally agreed that it requires replacement so it was dismanteled for replacement and skipping. However, due to the aforesaid dispute, the old parts including the rear disc and pads were put back together. I may not get time to replace it quickly, so the question is once the brake pads are opened completely, do the disc require skimming before being put back as the old positions of the pads will be disturbed causing a slight deviation in the application areas inorder to make the discs even for new wear and tear?

Whether the above answer is also applicable to the front discs too since it was also opened during the steering and suspension overhaul?

Any good brand for rear disc pads with cost / charges as per H.A.S.S in Mumbai ?

Any suggestions on the other undone items are also welcome

Thank you

My car went in for some similar work at Arya Honda, Kurla West on 2nd June.

According to what they're charging me, my bill is as follows:

1. Front + Rear brake pad replacement = INR 15000/-
2. Front + Rear brake disc skimming = INR 2500/-
3. Brake fluid + Clutch fluid refill = INR 1200/-

Hope that helps

re: Honda Civic : Maintenance, Service Costs and Must dos

Day #4, since car went to Arya Honda(Kurla West) for the work listed in a few posts above.

Went to the workshop today morning to check on things, waited in the customer lounge for close to an hour, post which the SA told me that parts have only been ordered yesterday.

The dent work + paint job still remains untouched.

The way the SA's deal with the clients is also very very lazy and slow. Everything at this place feels really reluctant.

Now I wish I'd given it to Apex Honda(Chunabhatti). The staff there seemed very competent and quick at the job.

A company workshop not stocking a set of brake pads is just not done!

My vote : 2 stars out of 5 (1 star for the TV that I get to watch in the customer lounge and the other star for their coffee machine).
