My feedback after a voluntary oil replacement in my Safari after 10K.
It was totally unnecessary, Unlike some of the experience quoted here where diesel engine oil should turn black after 200Km ,the color of new oil changed just after 10 KM drive.
The new oil feel exactly same between fingers as the old oil and in color and consistency too.

Vehicle was hoisted up in front of me and oil was drained totally ,Oil filter was changed and then mechanic poured green colored Castrol GTX , checked the dip stick and then topped till max mark. Total 7.7 liters was billed to me.

Actually earlier service advisers dissuaded me from changing at 7.5 K but then I called up couple of time and wrote to them so finally they gave up and agreed to change this time after 10K.

So now I fully agree to TSK1979 to stick to schedule provided by Tata for 15K and use the Castrol GTX in 2.2 VTT Dicor.

You should not use Castrol GTX. Its Castrol GTX Diesel. Its a totally different oil from Castrol GTX. Putting Castrol GTX will ruin your vehicle.

I hope you meant to say Castrol GTX Diesel & not Castrol GTX (which is for Petrol engines)

Yes yes my bad it should be Castrol GTX Diesel put by Tata A.S.S.
I got oil change done at 6K ( voluntary + Bardhal) , 10K ( 2nd Service), 20K ( Voluntary ) but now no more intermediate oil changes just the 15K interval as recommended in manual because there was no drop in level or thickening of Oil and also no fancy oil just OEM recommended Castrol GTX Diesel .

they do make a API-CH4 15W40 oil. But I have never heard of the company. Moreover their website does not have the technical datasheet of the oil in question.

I have read in these columns that Shifting back from 'Synthetic oil' to 'Mineral oil' is acceptable .
Now am in a Dilemma regarding my MJD Palio at 40 k kms in a small town, nearest Synthetic oil being available 260kms away!
Can I shift to Castrol GTX Diesel SAE 15w40 API - SF/CC grade from Selenia WR SAE 5w40 API-CF?
Should this shift be only for this oil change or Can I continue with 15w40 for another 2-3 oil changes and later shift to 5w40?
The oil change interval is 7.5k kms.
Will this have an effect on performance of engine in the long run? I plan to run the car till atleast 1 lakh kms.
Advise.
Regards

Yup you can shift to mineral, no issues. But if you put API-CC oil in your car you will ruin the engine. Put API-CH4
API-CH4 oils commonly available are
1. Mobil 1000 - Thanks to Tata, now this is commonly available everywhere
2. Castrol GTX Diesel - Hard to find
3. Castrol CRB turbo - Remember the turbo part. CRB is a crude oil, CRB turbo meets API-CH4

I use Mobile Delvac MX in my Getz CRDi, right from the 1500 KM. I change the oil at 5000 KM.

The oil change interval depends on usage, and for regular long runs 10,000 KM interval should be fine. Mine is a bumper-to-bumper stop and go driving mostly, and hence I stick to 5k.

All - I don't see any harm in changing oils more often than required (other than the expense), is there?

Mobil Delvac MX is the best - The rest is next for Diesel Engines.

There is a very close friend of mine who owns the entire TATA fleet and he swears by Mobil Delvac MX, infact he is the one who introduced me to that oil GreenHorn!

So I wonder why one should NOT use it in an indica / Indigo. I've also owned both for considerable mileage and have had no issues
