Deepak, my experience has been good. I have extended oil change intervals now. 10,000 km to be precise. Earlier I was chaning oil at 5,000 km. The engine sound is smoother specially during a cold start. It is not coarse.

The engine hum at cruising speeds is less. Over all I am enjoying it. If you want to know any specific parameters, please ask, I will try to answer.

Castrol Magnatec 5w-40
( API-SM ) Theoritically a synthetic blend gasolene engine oil ( S SIGNIFIES GASOLENE & C SPECIFIES DIESEL ) but according to the company equally good for high performance luxury Diesel engines according to the company.

Yup, great for that old tractor or a 1990s IDI diesel. It does not meet the minimum standards required for modern diesels(API-CH4)

yet sells in great numbers. and castrol has no qualms about advertising it as diesel engine oil.
For the crb turbo they really surpass themselves by stating( on the container ) that the product which is a CH4 , performs better than even diesel engine oils with API-CJ4 specs.
now aint that cute ?

Gurus Please advise.
I have a long list of queries, couldnt help asking looking at the depth of your discussions.
I now want to go fully synthetic for my Fiat Palio 1.3 Multijet.

Which is better - Shell Ultra diesel 5W40 Synthetic or Mobil1 5W40 ?

Shell ultra diesel retails at Rs.1050/Litre totalling Rs.4220/ 4 L Can.

Can I also use Shell Helix Diesel HX7 10W40 coming at Rs.890/ 4L Can?

What is Synthetic Technology oil as quoted by Castrol/Shell?

Which is the better grade API - CH4 or API - CF?

Please advise.
Regards

Use a diesel spec oil instead of a petrol/diesel oil. The difference is in the additives and detergents. So to answer your question it would be Shell HU Ultra Diesel over Mobil1 5w-40.

BTW, where did you find 5w-40 in Mobil1? Mobil1 comes in 0w-40 or 5w-50. There is another variant called Mobil Synt S 5w-40. Synt S is the poorer synthetic cousin of M1.

Shell HX7 is semi synthetic and is probably the best value among all the 3 oils. But do you get it HX7 in India? AFAIK Shell offer Diesel HX6 15w-40 in this country.

Of course you need to ensure that your engine oil is of the recommended grade and API spec. Dont experiment with engine oils or it could prove costly.

Hope this helps.

Rgds,

+1
This is the gospel truth!
@Alton: HX7 is CF rated. I would suggest you stick to the tried & tested Mobil Delvac MX

Hi Jaggu

Called the other Maruti Service Center and they confirmed "Mobil Delvac MX 15w-40" will be used and is approved by Maruti.

Is there any specific things I should ask these folks to do while changing the oil. Thanks for all the help.

Nothing specific, just drain the complete oil, plonk in new filter and refill oil with new drain plug. Standard procedure @ MASS

Yeah crush washer is an integrated one, so cant re-use. Moreover its an allen key set up so better replace coz a damaged head can be a pain.
