Thanks for sharing! If you look at the alloy wheels, The regular swift has a 4 hole PCD while the sport has a 5 Hole PCD! So this isn't just a cosmetic "sport" Badge but a really Sport variant of the car! What are the Engine specifications?

re: Review: 2nd-gen Maruti Swift (2011 - 2017)

You are right. Engine spec for the regular Swift is 1.4 VVT, 4 cyl, 16 valves. 5MT and 4AT. Keyless push start, Cruise control, All-round air bags.
For Sport, it's a M16A, 1.6 litre engine, 6MT/CVT. 0-100 in 8.7 secs. Output is 100kW, 160/4,400 N-m/rpm. Loaded to the hilt with paddle shifts, projector lamps, ESP, ABS with EBD, dual exhaust, sporty interiors, keyless push-start, sports steel pedals and high end music system. Exterior kit is really impressive.

I too have been observing this 'TECK' sound coming from the right rear side for a couple of months now. This comes up only when in articulation or being reversed relatively fast with the steering being turned.

I initially thought the silencer must have come loose or missing a nut, and thought I would get the nut fixed, and kept procrastinating it.

Finally, visited APRA last week and told them of the same. They took a very short test drive on a broken patch of road, and came back to the workshop.

Here, the test drive guy just tells the SA 'ZED', and the SA then proceeds to tell me that the 'ZED Axle' in the rear is broken. The SA tells me that the said part is out of stock and I should come back next week.

Frankly, this was the first time I had heard of this term, and proceeded to ask him what this 'ZED Axle' is and what does this imply. He proceeded with his explanation that it is related to the rear axle and the spot welds might have come off.

Alarmed, I tell him that the car is barely 8 months old and this sounds like a serious issue. He calmly dismisses it off as a minor issue and claimed that I could continue driving it forever, and the only issue will be the occasional noise.

Very bad on Maruti's part to have such an attitude towards recalls. I If I hadn't read this here, I would have been under the impression that this was regular wear & tear, or worse would have missed it altogether.

An update to what i said before... The axle beam has been changed in my cousins vehicle too (feb-mar 2013 model, chassis number does not fall within the number specified by Maruti ).

So who ever is having the issue irrespective of age or chassis number, please get it checked and rectified. This applies to Swift and Ertiga.

Sorry for not reading all 155 pages and asking this question.

Can we solve the poor braking problem of Ldi/Vdi/Lxi/Vxi by having wider tyres like 185/65/R15 or 195/R60/15 or 185/70/R14 ?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you cannot. The problem lies with the braking itself; not road grip. I think the company has offered a solution by re-flashing the ECU of the car.

So, swift update arrives in Dubai where it may or may not sell much but it doesn't arrive in India where swift sells the maximum. What sort of a business logic is this to keep your most important customer waiting?

Pure business logic. The Swift is already selling like hot cakes out from ovens in our market, so why to disturb! On the other hand, in foreign markets, it has to compete with global offerings and global standards and due to Govt. policies too, the companies have to offer a certain level of safety equipment.

The only way we will start getting these 'updated' models is either when it becomes necessary by way of a strict policy of the Govt. or when the top line figures start diminishing, which means when we as a customer start dumping sub-standard products.

At 1500 km, there should be no major work required on your car. Just the regular check up, washing which is part of the 2nd free service would be sufficient

Does the ZDI version (with ABS) have poor breaking like the other swift versions without ABS?
How good is swift ZDI breaking compared to say a Polo or Rapid ?

If I can answer that question on behalf of Saket77.

The ZXi / ZDi versions have good braking and DO NOT suffer any of the braking issues found on the LXi / LDi /VXi / VDi.

The Z variant gets ABS + EBD along with BA. I have done 19K in 7 months with a few emergency situations that demanded the ABS to kick in. At that time, no fish tailing or nervousness. I was happy I chose the ZDi version.

I haven't driven the Polo extensively but I am sure it is on par with the standards of the segment.

Anurag.

Spot on Anurag. With the short stint I had with a friend's Swift ZDi, I found the brakes to be at par with the best in this segment. I had the opportunity to drive in bumper to bumper traffic plus an open highway. Never felt any shortage of braking power, esp. when I was keeping an eye on this aspect due to poor reputation of braking ability of LX/ LD versions.

Thanks,
Saket

I drove a Polo diesel for 12k kms before I sold it and have now driven my Swift Zdi for ~9k kms. My zdi has 195 section tyres and even with that, the braking is what i'd term 'adequate'. Polo definitely had better bite and pedal feedback when compared to the Swift even with similar kms on the odo.

Thanks guys.
Do you have any news about launch of the new face-lifted version of swift?
The online pictures of the face-lifted versions are great, but have Maruthi made any changes in the interior of the car?

Major changes are to the exterior. I don't remember seeing a noticeable change to the interiors.

Expecting the Swift by year end mostly though there is no such news confirming the same.
