Driving through Chennai

It looks completely different from what I had in my mind. I haven't really been to Chennai but yes a fleeting transit long time ago!!!

The more things change they stay the same. I didn't make this up, some fancy shrink did. I enjoy driving around and living dangerously, clicking pics while driving in Chennai traffic. I do not recommend this activity to anyone.

This time around my observations have been that the number of Honda City's are increasing by the day, half of Chennai has been dug up for cable laying, the new city buses look sweet though i share my pain with the driver, Chennai has a lot of pimped up Swifts and 2-wheelers.

I was born and brought up in this city. I still live here. And like every person who lives in a city... i love my city.

Like any other metro Chennai has its share of draw backs, but all those drawbacks have a positive side in them.

First and foremost, who ever comes into chennai using the train has to faceup with the infamous chennai autowalla or as we put them in tamil autokaran. These auto fellows are no doubt agressive, foul mouthed and fleecing but they are safe. Im sure on any given time, be it day or dead in the night, a person of the fairer sex can get into a auto from a railway station or office to reach home safely.

Heat, the next time u are get lost in a desert, i m sure a person who live in chennai can cope with the heat better

.

Then there was this menace of these huge billboards, some of them about 200 ft high. These were a permanent threat for the chennai motorist and for the ppl living near them. And Monsoon made them worst, u would never know when a sheet from these boards would come down flying. But I m happy to see that govt. has taken strict action and removed all of these huge hoardings. The city is better than ever now.

Came across this autorickshaw on mount road, which had a spoiler in place. Given the speed at which these 3-wheelers zip by, guess its needed to keep them from flying away.

I, too, have seen an auto with a spoiler.

Came across this sweet looking Audi (coupe?) on Haddows Road last week.

And then there was this Innova that got stuck last Sunday at Bajanai Koil street in a pit that was dug up by either MetroWater or BSNL or whoever.

I would have loved if the Innova had a 'party' flag fixed in the front. Would have got a taste of their own medicine.

Have in the past come across this Jeep, but could not take snaps.

Today was lucky as I was tailing it from Madhya Kailash to SRP Tools signal. Beefy wheel arches, boxy looks etc - looks good.

Ofcourse could not make out what make it is - there is CRD written at the rear, but no idea what that stands for.

This is a Wrangler but not sure if its modded or import. This belongs to someone who works at Shell in RMZ Perungudi.

Thats a LWB Jeep wrangler. I spotted it a year back.
I guess the CRD stands for Common Rail Diesel. Sourced from Chrysler, i think.

The Jeep is a great find.

I've been driving around a bit the past two days. Great to see the city looking so green!. A few pics to update this thread for now. More Chennai cityscapes and cars will follow once again.
