The only plus in the Padi flyover has been that the roads below are totally traffic free. I am sure there will be a few knock abouts in that circular flyover.

Ha ha. Was wondering how it took you 3 weeks to post a response to my post dated 2/Feb.

Anyway, since it would be too OT, let us keep out all wagers/bets/drags etc from this thread dedicated to Chennai.

My first thought on seeing the pictures: how many people will turn right onto the circle because that's the quickest way to their desired exit.

The problem on Saturday & Sunday was every one wanted to use the flyover including those who could have peacefully gone about using the roads below which meant some additional confusion, though this has come down over the last couple of days.

Also I saw today the MTC bus drivers using their hands to signify that they are going straight from Padi towards Villivakkam. I hope everyone find some measure of communication between each other to prevent any possible knocks, if every one keep their egos off until they cross the flyover and adopt a "Give & Take" it would be safer.

But it has certainly helped in making the nightmare memories on that flyover fade fast.

Good pics @Mail4loys.

What has surprised me the most is the transformation of GN Chetty Road after the completion of the overpass. The election season is beginning and i see ugly posters and flags everywhere, there are far too many Santros in Chennai , this city has to be one of the greenest i've seen anywhere and fancy upmarket cars are a common sight on the roads nowadays. I wish the city had more interchanges like Kathipara , especially at the Spencer Plaza traffic junction.

Yes, it is a traffic jam and i got stuck in the pile-up for about 30 mins. I later found that the traffic jam was due to the Human-Chain event organised by ruling part for Srilankan tamil cause. I was driving from Pallavaram to Velachery.

Speaking of flyovers, there's a new one built in recent times - Baalu opens Alandur-Maduvankarai over-bridge-Chennai-Cities-The Times of India

This makes going from velachery to Kathipara a breeze. 1.9 kms from Velachery bypass to Kathipara. One can beat all the rush at Alexander square, Guindy station - the bridge is mostly empty. Neat option for people going to OMR, go via Madhya kailash, return via velachery.. pay toll one way only.

BTW, do bridges have suspensions too?

What's Tamil for, "We seem to be a couple of inches short on this one, pass up some chunks of wood."?

I'm going to explore downtown Chennai soon. The lawyer's unrest has stopped me a bit. I guess things have calmed down now.

It's a Morris Oxford from the mid-sixties.I'm not too sure of the year.If HM had gone with the program , then this could have been the successor to the Amby at that time.

The thingy about Chennai traffic is that it can turn on a dime. One moment one could be crusing effortlessly down the road and in a minute all hell could break loose. All because an auto driver decides to take an U-turn all of a sudden or some other driver indiscretion. These pics were taken today and Saturday is a working day for most. It was pleasant going today on the roads.
