There is a neat white 114/5 limo in Pune with the Poonawallas, MMG regd. The family also has a couple of stretch 123s, a stretch 126 and the Presidential limo amongst others. Enviable!

This car seems good. The W114 as Harit rightly pointed out were the Six Cyl models. These were introduced in 1972 to 1976 an were available with a twin cam six pot with four doors or as a coupe. Most were essentially badged the 280E/CE.

The car in question, of course IMHO, is very restorable. Its a 1972 or a 73 because after that the Quarter windows were done away with.

If the price is right,(which should be as it is a LHD) I would be glad to make an offer, notwithstanding I already have a W115 with me.
There seems to be some work gone wrong on the car and the twin pipes from the muffler look to be from the Gen-I City vtec.

A car like that would take a lot to fix mechanically. Its not going to be cheap or even reasonable.

The original rear would look like this.

The car has original upholstery and all bits in place except some missing body beadings. Due to its being in Delhi, one can not expect a lot of rust too.
Simple I am interested. If someone can let me know the price please?

Hi,

Since quite a few of you had asked me by pm about these cars, I'm posting a 'common' reply to be fair to all of you.
So it's first come first serve I guess!

My mech.'s seen and found out clearly about the above cars today. The guy has now come down to 1.10 (I understand he could come down further, but again, not drastically), and he insists on taking BOTH the cars. The car with the RC has had the bodywork done on it right down to the chassis, engine almost done. To be painted. More or less everything intact barring the seats.
So those of you still interested please get back to me ASAP (note: should anything finalise, I'll be a bit busy on monday and tuesday as I've my exam on tues. 'will be free after that)

If the price is right, it is a car with potential
Well this is a 280 for sure, the single Solex carb is very visible in the picture. The 280 E was the fuel injected version.Harit is right, either 72 or 73. From the front grille I would say a 73, it has the correct rear bumper.
It has always been Mercedes policy for some time now to test the engines for an upcoming model series in a production series, this engine was to power the 116 series 280 S and 280 SE models as well as being retained for the 123 series in the 280 guise.
This twin cam engine in this car was great performer, I think it produced 177 BHP in carb form and moved the 280 from rest to 60MPH in about 9secs with a top speed of 124-126MPH. these were nearly sports car figures at the time.
Car and Driver on the engine " soft and sleepy at the low end, but a demon unleashed in the high RPM ranges "
Worth saving, everything in life does not have to be collectible to be enjoyed!!

As I'd said, the price is for BOTH the cars. And he will give only both of them. The one without papers can be used as a parts car (and when I'd seen it, it was pretty much beyond restoration anyways!) but both have to be bought together.
I'm afraid it's out of the question for me to take any pics. or maybe even enter the place!
I had my mech. go there and request for taking pics. (without mentioning me) but he was told clearly that it won't be allowed, as there was some issue earlier with a few people just coming there, taking pics. and going, and turns out that one guy projected them as his own cars and garage, and so the garage owner got into a legal dispute with him and so on (which I guess was why the guy fired me when I'd first taken pics. of the cars in his garage- he even has a buick 8 that was under restoration then. I think it isn't finished yet)

Are you talking about the garage in Habsiguda which specialises in Imported cars ? I have seen a restored Buick in this garage, but not the cars you mentioned, which are for sale.

No!

This is in Secunderabad. I could give you more details by pm.

Meanwhile, here is another classic available- a '64 mk1 herald saloon turned (poorly executed) convertible, just bought by an avid collector here- he's got many lovely old classics, although mostly into American, early post-war British and European wheels, so he isn't too keen on keeping this car. Besides, he himself admits it isn't much as far as originality is concerned.

He was more or less persuaded into buying it, and the previous owner too was desperate to dispose of it and so it was bought rather reasonable (by today's standards)- 35k.
He doesn't really want to make any big profit on selling it either. He'll be happy (and relieved) if it goes to someone more interested in it.
Incidentally, I happened to see the same car parked at a local mechanic/dealer's hardly a month ago. I did presume it was for sale then....but didn't bother to ask.

It is a hyd'bad regn. but was in Vijayawada for a while, where it was done up by the previous owner ('seemed to have done some political campaign work for 'Praja Rajyam' party while it was there!) and then driven back to hyd'bad to be sold.
Unfortunately he couldn't take the car out for now as his garage shutter had been hit by a water-tanker so it opens only half-way up. So these are the best pics. I could manage!
It's mechanically fit, and with papers, although he said the regn./fitness is to be renewed.
Anyone interested can pm me.

Incidentally, if anyone here does buy it, I'd like you to part with just those white-wall tyres- atleast the front ones!!

Very strange. The correct size if I remember right is 5.60 13 for Indian market or 5.20 13 for home market. So 118NE tyres are the same size, which is what I use. Now these are MRF twin tread, which as far as I know didn't come in 13inch with broad whitewall, so Im a tad confused.
