Old Tamil movies are a treasure trove for cars like standards, plymouths and chevvys.

Speaking of which, stampro- you'd given me the VCD of "SAdhu MirandhAl" (thanks a lot!), mentioning that it has a Vanguard taxi throughout- however, sorry, but after watching the movie, I found out that it is not a Vanguard but a late 40s Chevy fleetmaster (driven by Nagesh)...!
But, on the bright side, you can see glimpses of various other standards in the movie- 'saw a black Pennant and even a Companion taxi!

I may not be good in identifying Vanguard but 'Uthiravindri Herald' is unmistakable.
See photo I received.

Woooow!! What a beautiful car!!

How I wish I were in this hero's place! I would've got into it and just driven away in it for good....!

Does it appear in the rest of movie as well, or only this scene??

If you can get the VCD/DVD of this movie there do send it to me

'looks like a '64-65 mk1 Herald, the number MSV 9774 would date from the mid 60s (my '62 Companion was originally MSV 2219)

Although, another otherwise decent Herald hacked into a rickshaw-top for a movie!

The ones in the movies you posted seem much better- is the Vallavan Oruvan herald a "topless" one too? Thanks a lot for the treat!

MSV 9774
MSV 2219

Is there any way of getting more information on these registrations NOW from the RTO?

Do they maintain records?

MSV 2219 had already been reassigned as AAY 3131 (you can make out in the pics. of my Companion) in 1972 itself.

As for the other one, I'm told TN RTOs scrap records > 20 years old, unless perhaps it is currently still updated with respect to taxes, fitness etc.

Standard 10

Yesterday, I got to see a fully original England made Standard 10 car here in Chennai.

I went and asked the owner if he is wishing to sell it, and he said no. I think he will come down.. so guys don't ask me whereabouts as I'm planning to buy it from him and more queries to the person will only increase the price.

Here are the pictures

If it is "multi owner, not original parts,No RC book" car Rs 3000 to Rs 20000.

If it is "single owner, original condition, original RC book" :upto Rs200000.

(Wheel rims expect left front are not original.)
Otherwise door handles, front grill, steering wheel,Emblem, sunshade, doors look original.
Please also get some photos of the engine bay as well.

Wait, till you get more professional look at the car from Stanher and Karl and then you can decide the price.
