Yes, very likely similar type.

Is/was this Aurora cinema in Mumbai or Pune? The cars appears appear to be in good shape, quite new.

I'm thinking it's a 1932 Nash. That's the closest match I could get.

I too have a lot of cinema photos, Eros, Regal are the most common, but also New Empire, Liberty, Metro I have. One can date the photo to the approximate year by googling the name of the movie being shown and when that was released. Hollywood movies were released in India quite on time. It was in the late 1970's and early 1980's that no new movie came into India as we were saving foreign exchange.

Nehru is standing in a Cadillac, the other car is a Chrysler of 1953. He always stood in open cars. I have other pictures of Nehru in Pondicherry pictured with this Chrysler.

Another landmark seen with cars is the Gateway of India, I have 100's. Here is an early one.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi,

I visited a display of selected photographs of the Indian Railways, celebrating 160 years of the Railways. Here are some pictures that had cars in them.

Regards,

Srinand.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

A Willys-Knight was driven from Manchester to Calcutta maybe in the 1920's. This was shown in The Automobile July issue. The must be more than 2 pages in the report.
It seems that lots of people have driven to India by road.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

The Wedding season is going strong in Mumbai with two having taken place last weekend. Weddings require wedding cars and here are some examples of their use in the past.

And best wishes to the couples

Another family car picture from him:
Wow, what lovely pictures, and the owners obviously knew their cars - the details like mirrors, spot light and badges look very classy.

As I've said before, these kind of pictures often excite me more than a Maharaja Rolls, much to the amusement of my peers

Same here!

People wonder why I should take so much interest in a mass-produced economy car!
