hey guys, need some advice on getting a decent audio config for my new alto(lxi).have checked out a few options and haver decided on:
front :4" JBL
back : infinity 300 watts
HU: pioneer 5950(yeah i know its the grey market stuff and originally is 5990)
its costing about 13k.is the combo ok or could it be better for the same price?

tyre on fire, this combo is perfectly fine.

Which infinity are you considering? I'm guessing 6X9 coaxial oval speakers, reference series?

Here is a pic of the HU. I checked the manual, but there wasn't much info on any specs. The only thing I could get from those 25 pages was that it is 17w RMS at 4 ohms (20 peak). But for the left bottom corner that says "IO" the unit has no other markings.

There is a thread by Navin about ICE at various budgets. There is one for 10k as well as 15k. Just do a search.

IMO: If you can accomodate a 4" Infinity (like a 4012i) in your budget the sound will be a bit more natural. I would probably try to get an Alpine HU and compromise a little on the rear speakers. Check Navin's post first.

model numbers would be nice. yet you could get JBLs in the front and the rear why did you think of getting different brands in the front and rear?

I have a strange problem in my recently upgraded ICE setup I have Infinity on the front and JBL on the rear driven by JBL 60.4 amp in my SWIFT. I have recently noticed that the rear right speaker was not producing sound. But when I pumped up the volume, it started working even at normal volume. and again after some time it goes off. I have not yet taken this issue with the installer, which I will do during this week end.

In the meanwhile, I thought of checking with fellow members, who would have had a similar issue.

it might be leaky cap in the amp.

pls explain me as to what is leaky cap ... probably is it some loose ends on the connector end of the RC cables?

A leaky capacitor is one which becomes a high value resistor.
Ideally a capacitor should pass through AC and should not pass through DC.
But a leaky capacitor would pass through DC too.

The extreme case is a short circuited capacitor which will pass through current the same way a wire would.

To test such a capacitor connect two ends to an ohm-meter. The ohm-meter should measure "open connection" in case of a good capacitor, but if its leaky you will see some resistance value.

So... the Amp's internals need to be checked. Is there any other checks' that I should do to confirm that this could be possible problem. Another observation that I have is that At times, the speaker works even at low volume.

it might me the loose wire also...like the rca plug....check the wiring out before taking anything major.....

leaky caps are sporadic they works sometimes not at otehr times and sometimes a good electric jolt can get them to work like when you turn upthe volume. let a good repair man look at this. BTW like LBM said above it makes sense to check all RCA plugs too before opening the amp.

I had another observation. It starts working when I just give a push on the dash board component, which mounts the HU and goes off when the car comes across few bumps. So ... I am going to check for loose connections at the HU end. Will update you after checking this out.
