Thanks for the punch Mayank (I actually needed it)
If all goes well, I should have it in my hand sometime next week; will call you as soon as it happens.

Re: The iPhone Thread: Update iOS 5 announced!

My call quality problems (people I call are unable to hear me at the other end) with the iPhone 4 resurfaced last week and I had the mobilewalla change the mic strip again. However, he says that the problems could also be due to the software. Can this be a reason or is he trying to wriggle out of repairing the phone correctly?

If it's a software issue then restoring the phone to factory settings should correct it, shouldn't it?

Done that already, the issue still persists. I have also changed the simcard more due to some other reasons.
I thought the issue has to be the mic, but that has already been replaced. What else could be the issue?

It is under warranty but bought in France. As a last resort I will try to return it in France, but will need to figure out how as I dont travel there anytime soon.

Worldwide warranty is not offered on the iPhone and Apple here only services phones that are bought in India

Your best bet is to send it to France; otherwise I'd suggest you get it checked at Gaffar market, New Delhi.

They could, supposedly, repair any iPhone (or phone for that matter)

The closest you can get to Swype is an app called ShapeWriter which gives you the Swype interface, then you can copy-paste what you have typed into the email/SMS app...

Re: The iPhone Thread: Update iOS 5 announced!

I have an iTouch 8GB. Its has a front camera. Not sure what version it is. Now I keep getting this prompt in Itunes for an upgrade to 4.3.3. Is there any sense in upgrading an iTouch to this version? Moreover, the download never completes, the couple of times I have tried, it failed.

I have a few books in PDF and other formats in my laptop/hard disk drive. How can I transfer copies of these books into my iPhone 4?

I think it addresses the PDF vulnerability which could make the device open to malicious hacks. So it can't hurt to upgrade.

As I write, I find that 4.3.4 has also been released to block the PDF hole to jailbreak. And less than 12 hours since release, that's been jailbroken too. The words 'cat' and 'mouse' come to mind.

The jailbreak available for 4.3.4 is tethered one, so if you have jailbroken phone, my advice is not to upgrade to 4.3.4

Yup, using 5, beta 3 and I must say the number of instabilities has come down. Beta 2 was actually worse than Beta 1.
