Can you please share the contact details of the local dealer because I am also from Hyderabad. I am planning on buying 4 acs but I want to try one at first.

I have a huge hall about 400 sft with 12 foot ceiling which I want to cool. It is not sealed totally (there is an open ten feet wide entrance to the corridor separted by a thick curtain) and I was wondering if there are any specialists who can advice on best option for us. I want cooling in both the corners of the rectangular hall but not so much in the center of the hall. Can the dealer help or advise us?

Secondly are you still happy with Mitsubhishi though it is still early days?

Have you done any kind of research about spare parts, servicing costs, extended warranty for Mitsubishi because I am worried about the life time costs.

Thank you for any advice,
Prasad

Will buy again .
Thank you very much. This helps. I have a strange situation due to which, I have to select air conditioners which are within 11 inches in height. I think only these 2 brands meet this interesting requirement!

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

What happens to an Inverter AC when it reaches the set temperature? I usually don't set below 26°C. Will the AC continue cooling at a low rate? Will this not lead to an undesirably low room temperature?

Lets assume an early morning low ambient temperature and just one occupant in the room. Hence not much heat generation.

I am considering a LG 5 star inverter AC for my bedroom.

The inverter compressor would run as low as possible but if the outside temperature is already below the set indoor temperature by 2 to 3 degree, then it will switch off the compressor.
This was the observation in my Daikin 5 star inverter, compressor runs as low as 8% capacity, below which it simply shuts off.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Am in the market for 1.5 ton invertor AC having silent performance as it would be installed in a room having a TV and sound system. This would be for Mumbai weather and I am generally happy keeping the temp at around 24-25 throughout.

Would recommend checking out O General, which has dual flaps for better cooling (unlike the new Daikin models), and a quiet mode as well. In normal mode too, I find it a little quieter than my Daikin.

What about Panasonic invertors? Their site has tons of models but how does one figure out which are the latest ones?

AmazonBasics now have their own brand 3 star 1 ton and 1.5 ton ACs. They look quite good on paper. A friend has ordered one. Let's see how it turns out

Hi,

This has been a trend everywhere with many dealers. They just ask us to deal with 3rd party service vendors, who are all time busy due to many brands they deal. In such cases any troubles with AC will be rectified in 2nd or 3rd visits.

In a way I am lucky to get a AC dealer who have their own service staff. Over a period of time I developed a repo where in they go out of the way to attend even at late evening to rectify the AC faults.

Check with the available dealers about the service and then proceed accordingly.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Need some help in Bangalore, am thinking of getting the apartment air conditioned. Issue is lay out of the apartment is not a friendly one (to place the units) and wiring also needs to be checked, since i am not sure provisions were made for AC at construction. Was looking at multi split unit which would have been ideal, but that is not working out, since they have been pulled off the market and only VRF ones (expensive) are only available.

So need a consultant or installer who can take a look and suggest best options and help with wiring. Location is Indira Nagar, Bangalore and it is a 3 BHK. Any known leads would be appreciated.

- I'm sensitive to temperature. Cannot take things too cold or too hot. The Hitachis are much better at maintaining the temperature throughout the day / night than Daikins which used to fluctuate a lot.

- Even on "low" fan setting, it's not as whisper silent as the Daikins. However, I prefer this "white noise" as it mutes other external sounds out quite nicely.

- Cools the room damn fast.

Will buy again .
Bought 4 Daikins last month (without much research). Here's my take:
1. I didn't know that Daikins are super silent. IMO Daikins are noisy as well. The Outdoor unit seems to be silent, but I can hear the sound of air flow from the indoor unit, even when the fan is set at 3/5.
2. The indoor unit has the option of displaying the room temperature, this doesn't seem to fluctuate a lot (but yes, sometimes + or - 1 degree Celsius.)
3. Takes almost 15 seconds to even open the lines and start blowing cold air (too slow IMO).
4. The air seems to be a bit dry, yet to figure out whether there is a humidity control. (Yet to look at the user manual.)
5. Service in my city is pathetic. The technicians look at their convenience rather than the customer's. (The piping has been laid in such a way that it's now impossible to cover it up with a casing. The living room a/c has 6 meter piping rather than a 3 meter piping for the convenience of not drilling a hole thru the wall. Had to call them again to fix a water-leaking drain pipe.).
6. I did a wise thing by calling the technician home for feasibility study, before actually buying the a/c. Even then the living room a/c was a challenge because the technician did not estimate the size of the 2 Ton outdoor unit correctly. Finally had to compromise by installing the outdoor unit hanging right outside the balcony door. Now the balcony door can be opened only towards inside. (Some times you buy the a/c and then if the technician says it's not possible to fit the a/c, you need to use it as a candle stand.)
The a/c technician gave me a fair idea about the electric wiring needs, so I was able to call an electrician before buying the a/c.
7. I installed a second sliding window with translucent glass (on the inner side) for the road-facing bedrooms.
Pros:
  • I don't need curtains anymore, so no need to wash curtains every month.
  • Windows are not dust magnets anymore, as the inner sliding window is closed at wall level.
  • Sound from the road is (almost) nil, because of two layers of glass.
Cons:
  • Risk of breaking the glass. But my windows are sufficiently high and out of line of furniture.

I used to think that General was good, but the aftersales in Mumbai is pathetic. Both my son's Ac's blew the mother board (it was traced to faulty installation wiring), so he had to pay for repairs which took over a month.

That is why I recommend LG Dual Inverter AC with 5 years extended warranty. That covers all labour and parts - except a few plastics. In effect what ever goes wrong - MB, Condenser, Gas Leakage is all taken care of. You also get two services every year free.

What I like the best is that the extended warranty costs are based on the type of AC and not on its price.

Look up the extended warranty prices on the LG site

It's not yet available in India. A week back I spoke with the Mitsubishi south india sales manager and it will take a months time for it to arrive in India.
