Android overtakes Symbian in last quarter of 2010, this is w.r.t. number of Smartphones sold.

Symbian : 31 mil
Android : 33 mil

Overall : 101 mil

Nokia.. give me an Android handset and you will win one customer back.

I got myself an HTC Mytouch 4G Android phone. Apart from HTC's famed poor battery life & slightly heavy metal body the specs were quite good. This one has Super LCD screen & I am loving it so far

Here are the Phone Specs

by the way, does anybody write OS independent apps anymore? I thought J2ME was supposed to be a cross-OS platform. But I don't see many java apps anymore.

J2ME is dead. It does not work on iOS, and is horrible on Android.

For cross-platform Apps, only choice is HTML5+JS, there are toolkits like Phonegap to make the whole thing work across platforms.

The new one seems buggy. Biggest drawback is that it makes your phone sluggish. Now thats a crime, when one expects a faster phone hoping for optimizations, if possible. Besides, you cannot root it with the new one.

I noticed no advantage in upgrading. On the other hand the disadvantages are glaring.

Add to it Oracle's suit against Google. People will think twice before developing on it.

That does not impact developers at all. Its impact is limited to platform providers (Google/HTC/LG/Motorola/Samsung). It does not target J2ME in any way.

1.6GHz CPU, GPU with dedicated 512 MB GPU, MeeGo OS! Could Nokia be up with something big! MWC 2011 is going to rock.

Not sure if just the phone spec is going to help Nokia get them out of the trouble they're currently in. I like Nokia phones a lot, but they have lost in a game, where they were considered the innovators.
The Meego OS has a lot to catch up with especially against android. I have an iPhone, but i prefer the android phones over the iPhone.

Android is open source.

So Nokia is free to pick up parts of Android and incorporate that in Meego.

And since they already pay royalty to Sun (Oracle), they are not impacted by lawsuite fiasco.
