Not according to GSM arena link, even my old E600 has 65K colors. It was announced in 2005 Q1, that's a long wait then. Why would they come out with a 65K phone now, most phones are 256K or even 16M colors.

You are right, it is new, but I am surprised they finally brought out such an outdated phone.

See this message in GSM arena forum from April 2006:
Quote:
Word is, this fone has been cancelled...for a second time! They started to develop it, cancelled it, tried to revive it and then realised that by April '06 it would be too outdated. They might be selling off some of the prototypes, but I don't think a full-scale production is going to happen now. Hopefully they'll go back to the drawing board and adjust it enough to bring out an improved version.
Wonder why they finally brought it out?

Saar, my Eten comes with 65K colors. So do most PDA-phones including my old iMate JAM. I dont know about 16m colors or 256k colors, but I'm more than happy with 65k. Actually I just checked up on the specifications of the Eten after I saw your post - I've never bothered about the specifications on paper, having relied on my eyes to check out whether its fine.

Trust me - 65k, if its what my Eten gives me - is more than sufficient for your requirements. It helps me browse and post on TBHP.

I agree to what Steeroid has to say about the 65k color screens. A naked eye cannot find any significant difference between 65k and 262k color screens. GSMArena themselves have said this in many of their reviews.

exactly,

http://forum2.mobile-review.com/showthread.php?t=22753

even a 65k screen display only 256K/260K/262K/16million colours.

the only major advantage is the better contrast.

check this onthe thread

256K

65K

I agree, after a certain point real difference comes from number of pixels rather than colors.

Samsung i750 - 320 x 240 pixels 107 x 52 x 22 mm Wi-Fi 802.11b 65K colors
Nokia E60 - 352 x 416 pixels 115 x 49 x 17 mm Wi-Fi 802.11i/e/g, VoIP over WLAN 16M colors

If I compare these two, the E60 is smaller in volume, but can display twice the info, fantastic display, and has better Wi-Fi. The former has camera, but I don't really care about phone cameras. If I really need camera I can consider the bigger brother E70 which is basically E60+camera+qwerty keyboard. Anyway, the finally test is to hold the camera and get the feel.

You said it - twice the info on almost half the screen real-estate. How's that for usability (I'm talking PDA applications here, not phone), unless you carry a magnifying glass all the time?

Well, I am not a heavy PDA user. Anyway, that is why I insist on hands on inspection before purchase. I won't buy unless it fits well in my hand and I am comfortable with the display.

Nokia E61 or 9300 or 9300i

Hi,

I lost my mobile (old faithful Nokia 6100) two days ago, and now am in the process of finalizing a new one. My requirements are -

1. A good mp3 player; FM will be a welcome addition. And a good video player - ability to play 3gp and mp4 files.

2. It must open PDF files. Ability to view Word/Excel/Powerpoint is a plus but not must, editing not required.

3. Camera is good to have but not a must.

4. Decent screen size, I will be reading lotsa documents and viweing lotsa movie clips on it.

5. I will not be using GPRS much, so web browser and mail client aren't that important.

6. I will hardly use WiFi and 3G, so they are good to have but don't want to spend much for them.

7. Bluetooth and USB connectivity; and expandable memory.

I have finalized on Nokia E61, but younger bro is insisting on 9300i, he says it looks cooler. Help me out in finding a phone which fits my requierments. The max I can spend is 25K.

Nitin

I use an O2 XDA IIi (with two 1GB SD cards, a Krusell Multidapt Case & Shure E2c sound isolation earphones) and a Nokia N70 (stock, no add-ons) with a Sony Ericsson HBH-608 BT Headset.

I use the N70 for calls, photos & videos. I use the XDA IIi for Data (Internet, email, IM, Remote PC work) and Multimedia (Movies, Music, Photo-storage & viewing, Games, E-books).

Also you can have a look at Palm Treo 650. Here is the official link: http://www.palm.com/in/products/smartphones/treo650/. The official price is 30 K.

It meets many of your requirements and also there are lots of free softwares available online for Palm OS.
